    PDA Boys and PDA Girls

Does anyone know the reason why the PDA boys and PDA girls sides behave like they are different clubs? There are only two things they share: logo and fields. Why?

Why not share coaches? Intermingle practices (at least, at younger ages)? Why not open pick-up games and mix teams (for older ages)?

I feel like there is so much missed potential and value to both sides. There has to be a reason. What is it?

PDA boys is a wonderful well run club - with excellent normal coaches. The girls side is another world. The boys coaches are the first to admit its crazy on that side and just laugh it off. WHY - everything comes from the top down. If you have a good leader you have a good organization.

Is the same at Match Fit? Are the boys and girls sides run like a different clubs?

No not really a PDA thing. This is the same everywhere,. After 12 you can't have girls and boys the same age playing together it's just a big mismatch. The girls might benefit but you'll just get complaints from the boys parents. Some girls can train with boys but most are just not physical enough. Just so we are clear I have a daughter that plays and is very competitive but she's uncomfortable playing against boys, she'll do it but the Level of her soccer drops off. Also it's unfair to the boys because no matter what they can't win. If they win it's like I you were playing against girls and if they lose well that's an other problem. So they don't have much to gain from it.

Agreed, not saying girls teams play boys teams, but there is something that is done in Europe and South America. It's called pick up soccer. Different sexes, ages, etc. It creates a good learning environment and fosters a love for the game. I feel like this is a missed opportunity with PDA given the access to players, ages and fields they have.

However, the question is more broad... Why are the PDA boys and PDA girls run like separate organizations? Is it just money thing? Why is it that a coach only trains girls teams and other only coaches boys teams? Is it that crazy to think there's value in Dave Boutilier or Larry Hart coaching both a girls and boys team?

Yes it's two separate clubs for boys and girls.

I agree not many girls can play with the boys after age 12. There are the rare few that can (I've seen a few over my years) but those are girls that are just overall higher level technically and physically stronger/faster. It would be interesting to see how the teams would do but PDA doesn't want the headache.

My daughters team played the boys last year. It was uncomfortable bc the girls held their own for longer than the boy’s parents would have liked. They have played boys multiple times going back a few years now. But they don’t need to play the boys bc the girls white and blue teams a year up would definitely give the team a major challenge.

There were 2 girls practicing with the PDA U15 boys team once a week during the fall, so it does happen.

PDA boys is a feeder to MLS teams, PDA girls is the end of the line, then college. The dynamics are very very different, however, the girls teams seem to be stronger than the boys in comparison because there's so much concern and disruption to constantly try to identity 2-3 players to move up to MLS on the boys side that it hurts the teams in the long run, if they focused on actually building a strong team rather than desperately trying to identify the next Edelman to barely make RB II squad, boys team would do a lot better.

I would disagree with your comparison. Most of the boys know they won't make the MLS and college is the end of the line, once in a while you'll get one that does. The girls side is putting girls on the national team and some are going pro. The boys side is a feeder to the RB academy at best. The boys side is not the top of the food chain in youth soccer in this region but the girls side is.

How many boys have gone straight to MLS teams from PDA?

I think that's what OP said, in comparison, PDA girls teams are better than PDA boys teams and I agree with you, boys teams are a feeder to RB academy at best and it seems they sacrifice team development in the hope a lone wolf will eventually make it.
