Is she threatening to quit? How did that come up? I am applauding her, sounds like a great player. Good luck at Duke...do us proud.
*** are you looking for? Put up with? I've come from a family of athletes, all played 2 or 3 sports in HS, and all played in college. I think I know a little bit about a HS athlete.
All I've said is that her playing in a low-level HS was a waste of her time, and costs could've far outweighed any benefits. She is going to a great school and on a scholarship. Fantastic for her. Risking it all to get chopped by a jealous player out of Pittsfield isn't something I would do.
Trying to figure out what gripe is...and I'm at a loss.

Yes there is are successes from public schools, but staff to student ratio is better, guidance is more involved, small group work and study skills are all emphasized and taught at an ISL. The smaller ratios are a big benefit to making kids college ready. I also don't know how old you are but public schools have changed in the years since I went there. The focus on testing, the crime, the disparity between incomes, and disparity in abilities in public school classrooms make it very hard for teachers to focus on any individual students.
Jealousy is unbecoming. If you think you and your family will do just fine in public school that is your choice. This family has had more opportunities because of their daughter's soccer ability. That should be celebrated here, not bashed. We actually have no idea about her study habits, or scholastic ability. ISL certainly can help students who need more support, or would get lost in one of those larger class L schools. Really good for her.
I went to a very selective College. I have to say that the private school kids were actually some of the most screwed up kids. lol! Sorry, that's just how it was... drugs, alcohol, no sense of the surrounding world around them. It definitely depends on the student and the situation.

Education choice came before athletics. Makes total sense in regards why Derryfield was chosen for HS. I am assuming she wanted to play soccer with friends, show school pride and enjoy the overall HS experience. I get all that and most parents/players would make the same choices if possible financially and with the right circumstances. The only knock is why quit 3 games in. Should have understood the situation before the season started. No matter what everyone says there are some people at DF who are not happy about that choice. Like it or not a national level player is under a microscope and motives and decisions will always be scrutinized.

The athletic director sounds like he supports the decision and it sounds like she is liked at Derryfield. The decision was probably made for multiple reasons and as for the timing, something must have changed or the decision was made earlier but she agreed to stay as long as possible. Again, no one except those who know her understand the situation. How about we talk about teams that are playing high school right now?

Union Leader prints the news. This is news. Not groundbreaking but still news.
This kid selected Derryfield as a school clearly for academic reasons, not soccer. It comes back to the school not placing their team in the right division. They were dominating D4 way before this player arrived. As a private school they naturally attract higher caliber athletes from families that can afford to send their kids there. No problem with that. But the school missed a great opportunity to give ALL their players an improved experience, playing better teams in D3. Knowing this player would add an extra dimension to an already solid team, they could have moved up when she came in as a freshman. Instead they wasted 3 years of mostly lopsided games meaning players did not improve to their full potential. Finally they make the move in her Senior year and she drops out. They will likely still finish middle of the pack in D3 but they could have done much better these last 3 years in D3 with more consistent opposition making their players better over the long term.

Division 1A/1B
After 7 games we are starting to see the top 7 teams separate from the rest. The top 7 all have 1-2 losses thanks to Bedford taking it on the chin from Winnacunnet. Not including Salem or Timberlane who both only have two losses but haven't beaten a top team yet. Should be a fun second half to the season as the top teams are fairly equal.

Maybe just maybe soccer is not the most important thing to this family. Maybe private school education and higher SAT's are, and a better college choice are what is important. If soccer gave her an in to the private school, good for her.
Her parents are under no obligation to keep her from playing there. Morgan Andrews played on her high school team, and I don't remember people jealous people coming on here and bashing her. Nor should Derryfield be expected to go up a division because of one student.
I don't know this girl. I don't care if she scored a bunch of goals though. I care that soccer was an avenue for her to get a better education than public school has to offer. Anybody who doesn't understand this simply chooses to ignore that private high school makes a huge difference in later success of students. BG is not in the same league as far as education goes. Now soccer gets this girl in to Duke, how awesome for her. BUT her education at Derryfield is what will keep her at Duke. Morgan Andrews couldn't take it at Notre Dame maybe if she opted for a private school she would have been better prepared for the trials and tribulations of a big school college athlete.

Got to see Pinkerton Londonderry game and they were very evenly matched. Too bad the field there is so awful. The only top teams I haven't seen yet are Concord and Winnacunnet and with that said I think Bedford has stood out more than any other squad.
