Ahhhh... The sweet smell of tryout time.

This year will be particularly crazy with birth year coming into play.

Let's all be honest here. Very few of our kids are going to end up at a level where we should be obsessing over coaching. We've more or less has a generation of kids that have come up through the soccer ranks, the men's national team still hasn't achieved glory and other countries are becoming more competitive with our women. There are great coaches that have zero certifications and absolute effing morons that have the alphabet soup.

Is your kid happy and is your kid getting better? If so, no point in upsetting the applecart.

This comes from the parent of a kid who was a lifetime "B" teamer, never played in a MAPLE or NEP game, but managed to outlast many that were chosen over and manage to get a few HS letters because she worked at being the best she could be with the genetic "s#it sandwich" she was given. Best advice I can give is to invest a little on the speed and strength because any coach that can actually coach is going to invest in potential.

By "picking favorites", do you mean than some may get picked for more training sessions (ie id programs, added practices, etc)? Not trying to be a jerk, trying to understand. We've been with 3 clubs over 10 years, there will always be "favorites" (I guess that's what you would call it... Although again, need clarification). The top players will ALWAYS receive perks or whatever. Guess what? That's life too!! That happens in clubs (ie elite teams may get more "extras", or at the team level, top 5 players get more "extras" than the bottom third). Also, the "favorite" may be the kid who comes to every single practice and busts his / her butt everyday. I have to say when I read posts like this it sounds a bit whiny to me.
Nope - not in GPS - never have been (pretty sure never will be. Keep guessing. Hint - coached for 25 years all over the US.

Sorry buddy... I have no idea what you are trying to say. I'm not "guessing" about anything... You seem very confused.
