Law enforcement officials arrested a man Thursday who allegedly made threatening comments toward Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake's staff that referenced the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

The Pima County Sheriff's office confirmed that Mark Prichard, 59, was arrested on Thursday at Flake's Tucson office.

According to an aide to Flake, Prichard told a staffer:

"You know how liberals are going to solve the Republican problem? ... They are going to get better aim. That last guy tried, but he needed better aim. We will get better aim."

Jared Yates Sexton, a New York Times contributor and assistant professor of creative writing at Georgia Southern University, shared with HuffPost several threatening messages directed at him since he unmasked the troll Sunday. In one, a Reddit user warns of a looming “journocaust” — presumably a holocaust for journalists. In another, a Twitter user says there’s “a civil war coming” and that memes — specifically, the antisemitic one by the creator of the video that Trump shared — are “the least” of Sexton’s problems.

Someone has tried to spruce up the joint, on the cheap, tacking up a floor-to-ceiling poster in a third-floor window of the party's post-donkey logo, a blue-circled "D."

After eight years of the most successful Democratic presidency in generations (says the author, not sure I agree with that), the Democratic Party finds itself not only powerless in Washington, but with a party infrastructure as battered as the building that houses it. As Tom Perez, the intense new chair of the DNC, tells me from his top-floor office: "This is a turnaround job."

But the intensity of vitriol keeps growing. The initial pro-wrestling gif was perhaps notionally threatening. But it was also unmistakably comical. Look through the pro-Trump threads in the last couple days on Twitter however. The new gifs are far darker. Trump as airplanes careening into the CNN ‘twin towers’. ‘CNN’ blowing its head off. They’re like memeified snuff films, all about norm-busting and shock value and violence. Andrew Kaczynski, the sleuthing wunderkind at the center this story, now sees his family inundated with harassing phone calls. The network itself has dramatically beefed up security in the face of not-unreasonably perceived threats.
