Yes somewhat reactionary, however, in the absence of good data officials need to err on the side of caution. Other nations with lockdowns have shown success with the strategy. This will be a topic for public health officials/case studies for years to come.

But it's Trump's fault. The Dems said it is and they have not motivation to lie, do they?

City Hall didn’t secure 1st order of COVID-19 supplies for NYC until March 6
      https://nypost.com/2020/03/20/city-h...NJBPG_G4CvhZW4

Mayor Bill de Blasio has blamed President Trump for the city’s severe shortage of COVID-19 supplies even though City Hall didn’t secure its first order for emergency protective gear until March 6, The Post has learned.

Officials with the city’s Office of Emergency Management tried to purchase nearly 200,000 n95 masks on Feb. 7, but weeks later they learned the vendors had already run out.

It was not until March 6 and March 10 — over two months after the coronavirus outbreak first hit China — that they finally secured the first emergency procurements of masks and hand sanitizer, according to the city comptroller’s office.

A medical supply vendor who has standing city contracts told The Post that initial requests for protective gear from the Department of Citywide Administrative Services were mired in bureaucratic red tape.

It took the agency an average of 72 hours to complete an order, he said.

“We’d send them a list of products we can deliver within 24, 48 hours,” said the head of one of the medical supply companies, who declined to be named for fear of jeopardizing his current contracts.

“The private sector is knocking on our door all day, every day. We have every hospital facility from Buffalo to across the country chasing us for the same product — N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, hand sanitizer — and the city just moves so slow, I mean it’s a joke,” he said.

He said the city missed out on eight of 10 supply orders because DCAS blew payment deadlines.

“I personally live in the city. It’s just a shame to see the city move at the pace they’re moving. It’s just an embarrassment,” the supplier said.

The comptroller’s office approved 12 emergency contracts totaling $150 million before the mayor suspended procurement rules on March 16 and took over the process.

NYC absolutely waited too long to close schools. Kids are believed to be asymptomatic carriers.
Ron Desantis in FL STILL hasn’t closed the beaches other than in Broward and Palm Beach. Those “snowbirds” will be coming North for spring. Second wave of infection spreading out from FL.

Wait until we learn the national cost of Ron failing to
Cancel spring break. Mayor of New Orleans said she would have canceled Mardi Gras has fed been honest with her . That was end of Feb, when Richard Burr has already been briefed and tipped of his fat cat buddies about how to position themselves for the upcoming events.

Numbers will be assigned to all the dumb moves. Buckle up. Trumps # going to be #1.

Will you feel like you “won” enough then, con job?

OP here and I'm not a con, very much a Dem, but I do think NYC did wait too long. FL will be an utter sh*t show soon enough. LA and TX too. Maybe when more "red states" see cases climb they'll start to "get it" as well. Sadly what Burr did is probably legal under Congressional rules - rules Barney Frank tried to get changed but got stopped by the GOP controlled Congress. Shocker. If Martha Stewart can go to jail for insider trading so should all of those in government. We need a sea change in DC to ver start getting our democracy back.

Trump is now "mulling over" forcing NY/NJ and CT into a mandatory 2 week quarantine. That should go over really well. Not even sure it's legal, definitely not very enforceable. He could do MA also since cases are climbing rapidly here too.

I’ve kind of had enough for one day from the Trump Death cultists

At a White House briefing on the coronavirus on March 20, President Trump called the State Department the “Deep State Department.” Behind him, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, dropped his head and rubbed his forehead.

Some thought Dr. Fauci was slighting the president, leading to a vitriolic online reaction. On Twitter and Facebook, a post that falsely claimed he was part of a secret cabal who opposed Mr. Trump was soon shared thousands of times, reaching roughly 1.5 million people.

A week later, Dr. Fauci — the administration’s most outspoken advocate of emergency measures to fight the coronavirus outbreak — has become the target of an online conspiracy theory that he is mobilizing to undermine the president.
I’ll say it again. They should sign and carry cards that are legally binding - they decline resources when they get sick. They need to put something real behind their BS.

Several years ago, after learning that the Empire State’s stockpile of medical equipment had 16,000 fewer ventilators than the 18,000 New Yorkers would need in a severe pandemic, state public-health leaders came to a fork in the road.

They could have chosen to buy more ventilators to back up the supplies hospitals maintain. *Instead, the health commissioner, Howard Zucker, assembled a task force for rationing the ventilators they already had.

In 2015, that task force came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short. *Patients assigned a red code will have highest access, and other *patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst), *depending on a “triage officer’s” decision.

In truth, a death officer. Let’s not sugar-coat it. It won’t be up to your own doctor.

In 2015, the state could have purchased the additional 16,000 needed ventilators for $36,000 apiece, or a total of $576 million. It’s a lot of money, but in hindsight, spending half a percent of the budget to prepare for pandemic was the right thing to do.
I am not sure the ventilators will be the critical gating item. Staff and ICU beds will be the part that we don't have enough of. Managing and treating a patient on a vent is incredibly complex and specialized. This is not an area that can be done easily by any RN, MD, RT etc.

As I see pictures with rows of patients on oxygen, (not serious enough for vents), I can't help but wonder if we have sufficient supplies of that as well.

I don’t know if we will have enough of even this modern solution, but thankfully we don’t have to move all this oxygen as compressed gas cylinders. Gases can now be extracted directly from air and delivered by modern devices. Hope we have enough of them.

Just watch a Trump presser. You catch one every other minute. He just denies what he said the day before as if we don't have tv sets anymore. But the cultist just chuckle about it. Why should the president be honest at a time of crises? But Obama . . . .

can we just put Biden in a nursing home already? Give him a mock-up of the oval office and tell him he won? :)

Much rather have that than an incompetent buffoon who lies on virtually every subject. At least grandpa Joe would believe his experts. Grandpa Donnie says they're all evil and a hoax out to get poor Donnie.

Red states that dragged their feet are going to struggle more than others and that’s AFTER people find out about all the makeshift morgues .

Prescient. Desantis only now issued a stay at home order for southern Florida. After the spring breakers already left. It's now entering the red states. Because we're a Republic and it's better that red states get hit with the inevitable outbreak on their own schedule. MAGA!

Hey cons - here is Senator Chris Murphy on the record way back on Feb 5.

Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough.

Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.
Yesterday we heard Birx tell us “only” to 200,000 dead if we continue mitigation, down from a million or more if we just do nothing.

When the modelers tell us in the future how many dead we would have had if we acted sooner, we can assign how much blood is on the hands of Trump, Deblasio, DeSantis etc

I criticized Biden last well for telling people to go out and vote in the three primaries held just last week. Helped spread disease. But no one will have the blood on their hands as Trump

We discuss that just as soon as Trump is arrested for recklessly endangering so many Americans as well as manslaughter
