It’s time for the Trump administration to stop posturing, blaming, and denying and take hold of a coherent national response

Since you mention that, does it also apply to Democrats? More than 10K turned out for the future Democrat nominee, Bernie Sanders, in Boston Saturday. Sanders than held 2 rallies in California with a combined estimate of 25,000 turning out.

Now that Buttigieg has dropped out, Trump is the youngest male running for president.

Can you comment while you are here on Bolton + Trump eliminating the Pandemic team that Obama assembled to protect us against these threats ?

Lastly you have been warned about the risks associated with running these federal agencies to serve Trump rather than the public as intended so live with the consequences
            From the AP:

MIKE BLOOMBERG: “There’s nobody here to figure out what the hell we should be doing. And he’s defunded — he’s defunded Centers for Disease Control, CDC, so we don’t have the organization we need. This is a very serious thing.” — Democratic presidential debate Tuesday.

JOE BIDEN, comparing the Obama-Biden administration with now: “We increased the budget of the CDC. We increased the NIH budget. ... He’s wiped all that out. ... He cut the funding for the entire effort.”

THE FACTS: They’re both wrong to say the agencies have seen their money cut. Bloomberg is repeating the false allegation in a new ad that states the U.S. is unprepared for the virus because of “reckless cuts” to the CDC. Trump’s budgets have proposed cuts to public health, only to be overruled by Congress, where there’s strong bipartisan support for agencies such as the CDC and NIH. Instead, financing has increased.

Indeed, the money that government disease detectives first tapped to fight the latest outbreak was a congressional fund created for health emergencies.

Some public health experts say a bigger concern than White House budgets is the steady erosion of a CDC grant program for state and local public health emergency preparedness — the front lines in detecting and battling new disease. But that decline was set in motion by a congressional budget measure that predates Trump.

The broader point about there being “nobody here” to coordinate the response sells short what’s in place to handle an outbreak.

The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions are coming from the White House. Public-health experts outside government have praised the CDC’s work so far and noted that its top scientific ranks have remained stable during the past three years.

So elderly deaths are ok? People who are already sick are ok? Do you realize how many Americans at risk due to age or medical conditions? Four WA deaths were in one nursing home and there will probably be more just in that one facility. Multiple first responders - 1/4 of the towns total - are now under quarantine because they responded to the nursing home crisis. when people come in to the ER medical staff are at risk if they're not protected. We can't afford for ER staff and first responders to all be quarantined.

As much as I don't want to see the economy grind to a halt we are getting to a point where schools in hot zones have to shut down, air travel dramatically curtailed etc.

Do you have any idea of how many young males died the past 2 months in the City of Baltimore because of gang violence?

Not at all. It means that Powell’s assurance if another rate cure if necessary to juice the market has temporarily allayed anxiety.

Agreed. But we can’t even make good decisions about that until we can test thoroughly enough to know where and when to make these moves but as we have already heard there are hundreds of not thousands of unidentifiable patients walking around because the Test kits in this, MAGA country don’t work.

Should we just be buying them from Korea if trump has already eroded the CDC’s ability to successfully produce them ? Trump

Infectious diseases head Dr. Anthony Fauci has to stop Trump from asserting in a White House meeting that coronavirus vaccine would be available in two months: "Like I've been telling you, a year to a year and a half."
He would love to dump Fauci at this point but he just can’t

                          Fauci in a delicate spot

“You should never destroy your own credibility. And you don't want to go to war with a president,” Fauci, who has been the country’s top infectious diseases expert through a dozen outbreaks and six presidents, told POLITICO in an interview Friday. “But you got to walk the fine balance of making sure you continue to tell the truth.”

And the truth about coronavirus? “I don't think that we are going to get out of this completely unscathed,” he said. “I think that this is going to be one of those things we look back on and say boy, that was bad.”

Commanders not allowed to protect their troops from coronavirus without checking in with donnie. The messaging is the thing

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper has urged American military commanders overseas not to make any decisions related to the coronavirus that might surprise the White House or run afoul of President Trump’s messaging on the growing health challenge, American officials said.

Mr. Esper’s directive, delivered last week during a video teleconference call with combatant commanders around the world, is the latest iteration of Mr. Trump’s efforts to manage public fears over the disease, even as it continues to spread around the world.

Mr. Trump has said Democrats and the news media are stoking fear about the disease, even calling their concerns a “hoax” during one rally last week.

The president has since tempered his words.

Mr. Esper told commanders deployed overseas that they should check in before making decisions related to protecting their troops.

Welcome to all the readers! Bit busy today but there are some important things -

The New York Times has published a lengthy report about how the Centers for Disease Control completely flubbed making its own coronavirus testing procedure, which has left doctors and hospitals without fast and reliable methods for diagnosing patients who may have the disease.

“Clearly, there have been problems with rolling out the test,” Dr. Thomas Frieden, former director of the CDC, tells the Times. “There are a lot of frustrated doctors and patients and health departments.”

Dr. Michael Mina, an epidemiologist at Harvard University, gave the Times an even harsher assessment about the Trump CDC’s performance so far.

“The incompetence has really exceeded what anyone would expect with the CDC,” he said. “This is not a difficult problem to solve in the world of viruses.”

Even as doctors clamor to have a fully functioning coronavirus test, the CDC has stopped answering the Times’ questions about the test’s development process, and the Times notes that “officials appeared to have removed figures on the agency website counting how many Americans had been tested.”
