You can repost the same over and over again. It doesn't change the fact that the Clinton campaign disseminated the birther theory for their political gain during the 2008 primary run. That's all been pretty well summarized in post #43566.

From Politico: (in 2007) "Clinton had a hand in birtherism traces to the role of her then-senior strategist Mark Penn, who issued a memo in 2007 suggesting that Clinton emphasize Obama’s upbringing in Hawaii and Indonesia and paint him as fundamentally un-American. The memo never questioned Obama’s citizenship but did suggest highlighting his “lack of American roots... Later, in the spring 2008, as Clinton’s chances of winning the Democratic primary grew thin, some of her hardcore supporters circulated rumors that Obama may not be a U.S. citizen... “Barack Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth,” read one of those emails posted, at the time, by Snopes.com, a site that attempts to debunk internet rumors. On Friday, Clinton’s former senior aide Patti Solis Doyle acknowledged that a volunteer coordinator in Iowa forwarded a birther-related email."

From McClatchey: "Two supporters of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign reportedly shared the claim that then-rival Barack Obama was not born in the United States and thus was not eligible to be president. One was a volunteer in Iowa, who was fired, Clinton’s former campaign manager said Friday. The other was Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal, according to a former McClatchy Washington Bureau chief."

Fact Check.org: "It is certainly interesting, and perhaps historically and politically relevant, that “birther” advocacy may have originated with supporters of Hillary Clinton — especially since many view it as an exclusively right-wing movement. But whether those theories were advocated by Clinton and/or her campaign or simply by Clinton “supporters” is an important distinction. Candidates are expected to be held accountable for the actions of their campaigns."

A 1991 literary client list promotional booklet identified Barack Obama as having been born in Kenya.

So let's not pin birthism on Trump, who by the way was hanging out with the Clintons at the time.

My suspicion is that part of the explanation involves Trump’s success in driving down black unemployment to its lowest levels ever. Throw in the nascent movement among black conservatives to escape what some call the Democrats’ “plantation,” and there is real fear on the left that their near-monopolistic hold on the black vote is in jeopardy.

So, in a bid to trump Trump among black voters, Dems have decided that treating them as victims and giving them government handouts is the answer. But again, the response is self-defeating because support for such a radical and impractical proposition sets up a contrast that will favor Trump among most voters, including many black ones."

Loved these parts of that article: "The problem, of course, is that all leading Democrats are drinking the Kool-Aid that America is ready to embrace extreme, left-wing policies and that Mueller and Barr are covering up for Trump and Vladimir Putin.

This is the stuff of moon bats and tin-foil hats, yet if there is a major Dem in power with the courage to say so, I’ve missed it. The whole party, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi included, seems determined to hold hands and jump off a cliff."

"Trump Derangement Syndrome is no joke — it is driving the opposition to make irrational and even insane statements and decisions."

"There is the mad-as-hell political lunacy exhibited by Reps. Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler. They are obsessed with impeachment and promise to find the facts to support it any day now.

They show no desire to spend a single moment on anything else, meaning they have abdicated their day jobs. Trump is their white whale, and we know how “Moby-Dick” ended."

Or it could go spectacularly badly for the right as well - we already know Assange met with Trump team members.

The right does. They love it when a person of color agrees with them. Makes them think not everyone Republican a racist - they're not, it's just that most racists are Republicans.

It doesn't change the fact that she quickly dropped it (her people may have found that snippet, which the editor said was made in error), Trump took it up and RAN WITH IT FOR YEARS. Even when Obama actually producing his birth certificate it still wasn't good enough for Trump. Read the link above -"Andrew Breitbart was never a “Birther,” and Breitbart News is a site that has never advocated the narrative of “Birtherism.” In fact, Andrew believed, as we do, that President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1961."

If even Brietbart didn't believe it....

I think you can include the poster you just replied to in the racist category.

I worry sometimes when, as we think about how to deal with the immigration issue, we think that any moves towards assimilation of the existing newcomers to the existing culture is somehow a betrayal or a denial of people’s heritage or what have you. If you’re going to have a coherent, cohesive society then everybody has to have some agreed upon rules, and there’s gonna have to be some accommodations that everybody makes, and that includes the people who are newcomers.

Should we want to encourage newcomers to learn the language of the country they are moving to? Of course. Does that mean they can never use their own language? No. Of course, it doesn't mean that. But it's not racist to say, "Ah, if you're going to be here, then you should learn the language of the country you just arrived at."

Am I racist for this line of thinking?
