This is why it is hard to compare tax rates in the US to Europe. They don't have all of the layers that we have. I think the income tax should be replaced by a National Sales Tax. There is a vast underground cash economy where people are not paying income or other payroll taxes. A NST evens the playing field. It could also be a progressive tax where large purchases i.e. cars over $50k or luxury items pay a higher percentage. Flat taxes in general are punitive to lower income earners so it would have to done intelligently. It would however garner revenue from all the electricians, plumbers, roofers, landscapers, contractors who are beating the system by paying under the table. My M-in law worked for a doctor with two employees and they were alternately off the books every 5 to 6 years. This way he avoided payroll taxes but they still got their SS quarters in. He also dutifully filed for bankruptcy every 7 years and then reformed a new LLC. Nice huh?

That " vast underground cash economy" exists in EVERY economy on earth. It is a direct response , just as the brown and black markets are. Progressives never learn that the more they tax , regulate and try to harness wages and increase taxes, people respond with appropriate measures to keep what is rightfully theirs.

This from a guy who throws the assessor off his property by his own admission to avoid paying higher taxes. Hypocrisy.

But this is where the argument that undocumented immigrants are a burden. A recent study showed that they contribute more to the economy via sales and other taxes than is paid out.

I disagree with your "rightfully theirs" statement. Too many people in this country don't want to pay taxes. But when your sorry ass is having a heart attack who is going to show up to revive you. The local a-hole running the town TeaParty?

I don't think many advocate for there to be NO services, more that there should be less. Anything that the Federal Gov't gets there hands on runs less smoothly than not. Why? 1) Too many layers to find accountability; 2) Worker apathy, since they know it's near impossible to touch them.

I found your characterizations and name-calling, offensive, and counter-productive. I suppose I should go hide in my 'safe zone' now and only allow opinions to enter if you agree with mine.

I receive a 1099 for all of my refereeing income and pay taxes on it. All of the major venues my band plays send a 1099 for money paid to the band and we report that income. Like I said earlier. I understand why I pay taxes........... The true hypocrites are the ones who whine about tax burden but still want 15 aircraft carriers and thousands of bombers and fighters most of which have never fired a shot in anger. Or that whine about the poor treatment of vets but then vote for Republican senators who hamstring the VA from providing adequate disability payments or other services. I am an avowed Liberal but I ain't no hypocrite. I hire contractors because I am away from my house from 5am till 8pm and my wife is a full time student and teacher. I'd rather pay somebody to do my yardwork rather than wasting my weekends doing housework or yardwork. I like to keep my money local.

Because I am never attacked in here? I respond that way because that is the level that most of the discourse in the forum sinks too. I am fully capable of having a calm and rational discussion about any issue. Unfortunately there are too many people in this forum that are racists, misogynists, hateful of anybody that is different from them, and that are downright miserable people.

Regardless, I find your characterizations to be offensive and hurtful, and they don't do anything to forward the discussions. Turning a discussion into commentary filled with hate for differing opinions just makes the other side bunker down.

Say it again, so you keep believing it. " undocumented " . ' Undocumented " is really Illegal. They have no legal right to be here, to get any benefits by being here , and they should be back in their own country. The fact that they are "undocumented" means that they do not have to meet the standards of other American citizens. Tax filing, property ownership and all that comes with it , credit rating, liability , etc.
That's some of the burdens they place on society . Did your " study " factor those things in ? How good and reliable could a study be , when the exact amount of illegals, their location, their presence is unknown?

Many are driving without insurance. But the handwringers GIVE them a license . Give them nearly everything. When did this idea by Progressives that their " rights" are more important than American citizens ? They have NO RIGHTS. We have caved in under the whining and handwringing by Progressives.

When you work , when you EARN money, it is YOUR property. When you get a handout from the Government, it is a percentage of everyone else's property. The Government takes away certain amounts of property based on Law and Policy.

Just think how much cheaper it would be when Emergency Services have to take care of Illegals, and others you can't pay their own way. Some Hospitals in new England have 60 % of their patients on Medicaid . Medicaid comes out of the pockets of the property of taxpayers.

It should be a nice winter for Seniors , regarding Oil expenses. Prices are down. Just think, if Obama wouldn't be blocking Fossil fuel production and transportation ( Pipeline ) , if he wouldn't be bypassing Congress with his EPA Nazis against Coal, seniors might be paying $ 1.00 a gallon. Then maybe they can pass the cat food by in the aisle.

But don't worry, the Government will still get their taxes, which is more per gallon than the actual net profit by those " evil " oil companies.

The environmentalist wacko progressives don't want a natural gas pipeline to expand in new England. Oh no, that would take away the emphasis on alternative fuels. Alternative fuels, that need to be subsidized, supported by new Legislation, government meddling etc.

The hell with people that could save $$$ by using natural gas. we need to subsidize the Prius ( sales have tanked ) , Volt and Tesla owners. Most of the owners are...that's right, in the upper income brackets.

1099 forms are only required to be sent for amounts over $ 600.00 . So you are saying that ALL your Referee services are those type of situations ?
" major venues" How about the others? You mean to say that in the Nightclub /Entertainment business , there isn't ANY cash changing hands? All reported? What do you think, I was born yesterday ?

Those Aircraft carriers are incredible. Do some research. They could easily be utilized for many other things besides military conflicts. They are a tremendous asset. Sea water desalination for starters. The best Defense is a great Offense. Our military strength keeps us safe, and gives a second thought to those that may wish to harm us. We could squash our enemies, even ISIS like a bug on a rug, but we lack the WILL to do it. George Patton is spinning in his grave. You trashed Ike some posts ago, but thanks to him, and that hated " military industrial complex " that Liberals moan about, we are not speaking German.

That's your excuse? That sometimes you're the 2nd wrong in the sequence? And you've never gone the ad hominem route first? Pffft.

I report every penny of my officiating revenue and most gigs generate over $600 (I'm selective). As for my band? We don't work for less than $700 and we don't play in dives and biker bars. We play in upscale venues and at festivals. I am not some hack garage band musician. I have been performing for 40 years and play in a band that has a large following.

As for ISIS take a look at their manifesto. They are craving a ground force conflict with the US. It will be their best recruitment tool. Their ideology has a half life about the same as Al Qaeda (which we (or Republicans to be specific) created...).

I feel bad for you. Seriously. As I do for the million of scared and cowed Americans who jump at every newsbite from the MSM. Don't get sucked into the jingoistic propaganda being spewed. ISIS is a paper tiger that will fold under the weight of its own barbarism.
