    And so is Nighswonger.

If a player is not learning how and when to take risks in possession , how to pace themselves stamina wise, how to read the game in meaningful games, then they are being short changed. Of course none of that really matters because this is not about pro development, but many people seem to think it is. No coincidence that UNC are producing fewer and fewer players who seem to go on to pro success.
I hate it too but it works. Stanford was far more talented and skilled in the last final but UNC fought them to the end with a more mediocre roster.

And DC was poor without it. Zhao and Nishwonger are so dangerous they come off the bench. Its not soccer as I know it. Its becoming a matchup game where sub patterns have a huge impact. They create a false pace, idiotic pressing and dont do the kids who say they want to play at the next level any favors at all. Its led to a style where possession is almost without value. Much easier to wait for the inevitable errors.

When you are talking Macario, Smith, DiBiasi, and Davidson, yes they are mediocre. Most of that list have been on or are currently members of the WNT. How many on your list are?

Davidson was not there in 2019. UNC and Stanford had pretty equivalent rosters. Very different playing styles. Just because you prefer a certain style does not make the players better. Soccer is a team game.

Davidson was there. She had a season ending injury courtesy of one of AD’s goons. Earlier poster said AD no longer develops players for the next level as much. If they are equal why aren’t any of their current roster trying out for the WNT?

Do you think all starters are dangerous? A player that comes off the bench and can change a game is a significant player. Zhao and Nighswonger are those players. FSU plays possession.

Pinto is a regular at sr level and has been since high school. She is still only a jr. Jones, also a jr, is a national team player elsewhere. Fox has been called into Sr nat camp. I forsee Bell there as well.
Not sure you watched Macario on sr wnt. Not impressive.

I think College soccer is the only form of soccer I know of that coaches put their "best" players on the bench to start games. It's a joke really. You can rationalize that however you choose, but to me it makes a mockery of so many aspects of the sport.

Regular? Nope. Called in to a senior camp once at 16 and not since. Jones. Jamaica. So is Sade Ademolekun at USC. Fox. Has struggled for any traction and cannot stay healthy. NT call ups are not a guarantee of anything. Very simialr rosters and profile on both teams.

Davidson left after 2018 season, Did not play in the game being discussed. Entered draft in 2019

If you think NT caps are the only barometer of talent, then I cant help you.

I am a Pinto fan so I’ll give you her. Used to be that half of the WNT were Heels. Not so much any more. Actually good for the sport. As for the WNT, they have to decide whether to just kick long balls to their stars or play possession like the Japanese, French, etc.. Players like Morgan Brian and Macario don’t fit that style. At some point our 40 year old stars need to move aside.

Agreed. I am not a big heels fan, but I certainly do not think they have a mediocre roster as someone claimed in a previous post.
Yep our USWNT lacks an identity. England,Canada heck even Brazil was playing possession in the SBelieves Cup. And they gave US a scare.
