Merrimack, UMass is locall. Big rivalry games….or scheduled thinking easy wins. Not OP and I don’t think it’s necessary or even useful to play BU, NE, or Harvard. As a fan I’d like to see it but it makes zero sense for BC to schedule that.

Merrimack? Hilarious. You mean kick the ball down field and chase? Why even bother playing them. Two old turds coaching playing 1950's soccer. At least UMass is trying to play soccer. BC ought to rethink their local competition

I don’t know fellow BC trolls. Back in the day Eagleman and company were obnoxious snobs but at least most had IQ’s above 70. This bunch…..,,

Those days are over, college soccer matches non conference is not about making you happy. As far as what happens ahead when BC play conference games it’s clear you’re not a fan or supporter. No one sees BC as unfortunate for what’s ahead but rather at the competition ahead. Too many TS amateurs club parents have a problem with the ACC. Let us know why playing local colleges are a rivalry and why it is important to you.

Yes, I think it is important to play local rivals, BU, NU, and Harvard but BC chose not to play strong rivals and decent local competition. They chose to play teams just emerging out of D2 Merrimack, Stonehill and god awful Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville and LIU. So, the result is when they played an average UMASS team(but well coached and organized) who played all ready another ACC team, Rutgers, and Harvard in their non-conference UMASS were much more prepared for today's match-up. A 5-0 start for BC didn't convince anyone and certainly not the players nor did it prepare them for what is up ahead in the ACC. Kudos to UMASS for challenging themselves and it will bode well for them being prepared for St. Louis their first conference game. Unfortunately for BC....it looks like another very long season.

The reason why BC doesn't want to play anyone local is it only shows they aren't a good team, and the conference is the only selling point to the program (not the school, the program).
Sort of like Stars White - if they played all the local clubs and don't do well, how bad would it look for them? Better to run and hide and fall back on the league. BC = Stars White.
I personally like how RI does it - essentially 4 programs in the state (Brown, PC, URI, Bryant) and they do play each other. Not always in-season, but spring/pre-season at the minimum.
