There are parents who get it here. It’s like reality TV, you know it’s terrible but you can’t stop watching.

Ha ha that's about entertainment, and TS can definitely be entertaining. But that's different than taking it seriously, obsessing over your middle school kid's "career"

They either already ‘get it’ and just read this board for entertainment, their kid will fall off the soccer path and the parent will disappear, or they will never ‘get it’.
        “Get it”
        -its about development not wins/losses
        -your league doesn’t matter
-being realistic to your D’s ceiling
-local, regional and national rankings are fun..thats it
-player is happy with coach, culture, atmosphere
-club doesn’t matter ^^ see above
-play high school, its fun for different reasons
-nobody is scouting before sometime in their sophomore year.. if they are then you have a unicorn
-tournaments are fun win or lose, Time spent with teammates is more important than that goal that wasn’t scored. Gotsoccer points are overrated
-D1 scholarships are not everyone’s goal

Its now funny to watch parents of ulittles. I was guilty of caring too much when it didn’t matter. Thankfully I think I get it now.

Great post. I too admit to having been a little too "enthusiastic " with my oldest but some conversations with parents of older players set me straight - and then much of what they said would happen actually happened, especially all the middle school changes.

League does matter or your kid better be on a great team.No coaches are lining up to see copper division

I guess its part of the process but I’d look back to “know your d’s ceiling”. If she’s shooting for a D3 school then it doesn’t matter if she plays ECNL, if her target is D1 then, yes, it matters a lot. Bigger point was it doesn’t matter if its ECNL or Ga or ECNL-r or DPL. Find your target and your ability and go from there. Most important is let your D make the decision, you may want her to play D1 but maybe she’s be happier or more academically challenged playing at Amherst. League should align with the player goals, I don’t think the list was intended to be one size fits all.

Some solid guidance on this thread, but please 08 parents don't let crusty vets steal your joy. 08 is at the height of the youth sports Hype Cyle. You go to tourneys, girls giggle in hotel rooms, parents guzzle in the lobby, and you buy a bunch of SWAG. It honestly doesn't get better. Of course things will change, but the landscape tomorrow will be different than it was yesterday. All you can do is appreciate the time you have right now and then try to do what's best for your daughter each year. Good Luck!

So what's the scuttlebutt? It's just about that time of year. Tryouts/ID Clinics are scheduled. Names are being thrown around. New faces at practices. Parents are "flirting" with ECNL coaches.

                  - There was a full parking lot at NEFC on March 22nd for GA ID Clinics
                  - Scorpions scheduled ECNL tryouts for the week of May 2nd.
                  - Lots of chatter about too much travel from NEFC GA and Select GA parents. Tough to be in the Champions League where you are obligated to travel regardless on quality of the individual team.

What's the deal with Stars Blue having four 09s on their 08 ECNL team? I could see having a girl play up if they aren't being challenged but four?

They're probably the strongest 4 players on the team. Talent drops off precipitously.

Maybe they can form a support group with the Select 08 parents, What To Expect When You Need Your 09's To Win

Players are just coming up stronger. Starting younger with better coaching. 2009s, 10s and even 11s are coming up skilled ballers. And not a few unicorns but across the state in many clubs we are seeing the younger girls are just better on the ball and will likely be called up to support older teams. We are seeing it in ECNL, NPL, GA, all the way down to town. Looks like solid MA training for younger players. This is good for soccer in the north east.

Yes if those 4 09s were sat, Stars blue 08s would struggle to produce a goal

Select 08s could have used some of that 09 magic this weekend. A disaster.

It probably could have prevented a beating at the hands of a team that hasn’t won a game all season. Unfortunately the Select 09 was playing for the Select 07s today and couldn’t help them out.
