And pay doesn’t follow revenues in the entertainment industry or any other. It’s not like there is some “fairness” fairy handing out money to people based on the revenue in their business. You have multi-billion $ businesses were the CEO makes $50 million a year and the workers make minimum wage. People are more because they FIGHT for it. We have things like minimum wage, benefits, etc. because people demand, strike, unionize and sue. That’s true in the entertainment industry that is highly unionized. You must be a sheepie who just takes what they get.

Hope these USWNT players win and get the millions they deserve.
anyone else have a chuckle about this poster calling the other post dumb?
Anyone else heard of residuals? How bout Incentives?
Anyone else hear of stars (in movies and in sports) negotiating upfront vs backend?
Anyone else hear of collective bargaining pinning player salary cap to league revenue index?

These contract terms serve as the fairness fairy. If you want more in the long run, you take some risk and then enjoy the spoils of success when you perform. If you want more security and guaranteed payouts, you you don't get to complain when the upside skips over you. Guess what the women asked for in the last contract?

Agreed. So when a male pro player chooses to fight for more money because he had an outstanding year, despite his contract, most people get mad. Say he is ungrateful getting paid already to work in his sport. They get angry because he signed a contract. He already agreed to terms; knowingly signed the contract because he was in agreement. He changed his mind after the fact.
Very few support this including fans.

Now substitute WNT with "he" in the above example. Do your feelings change? Should they? Are they claiming they did not understand the terms of their contract?

They need to be smarter advocates when it comes to collective bargaining.

Exactly. and it is possible for me to agree with the above AND think USSF could have been a lot smarter about this as well. I think USSF failed here.

The women took to their case to the media because they knew the court of public opinion would rightly side with them. This is about social signaling, and not contracts. USSF should have consulted a better PR firm, and at minimum adjusted accommodations, field conditions, and coaching services to be equal to that of men - no brainer. At the same time they could have announced that they would happily tear up the current agreement and offer identical TERMS (not the same pay, but the same pay structure) that would allow many USWNT players to make more than the men (more CAPS, more pay). The women would then have to explain why they didn't want those terms originally.
