We have done the ODP/Personal Training/HS thing. The reality is that D1 coaches are primarily looking at DA and ECNL players and the above makes you a better player, it doesn't get you in the door so to speak. I know plenty of players who are making no progress in recruiting right now because they are playing NPL or some other lower league. It's the system. We are in it. I'll be happy when we're done with it.
    This wasn't you?

Anyhoo....now assuming what you are saying is correct, and she is NOT happy...what on god's earth are you doing??

Way, Way, WAY too caught up in the destination. Enjoy the journey.

No. That wasn't me. Different OP.

My kid is not happy, but she loves the game and is driven to play D1 in college so she sucks it up and drives on. She already has a 4.0+ GPA in honors/AP so as long as academics are tracking, we will support her extracurricular goals. As I stated before, I can't imagine any player or family is happy when there are so many rostered. Play time is an issue. Just dressing for games is an issue.

To the other poster, yes, those are full time players, at least for the single age group teams I checked, as there is no dual rostering. My kid is on one of those teams. If everyone shows up for a tournament or game, 3 are sitting. That simple.

You definitely don't have a kid in the 2020-2023 age group. The crap you keep posting is generally from someone who has been out of the system for a decade or longer (and is clueless) or from someone who has younger kids and hasn't gone through the meat grinder of club soccer college recruiting years.

Want to know when my kid and I actually enjoy the beautiful game? Pick up games, town travel games, ODP even. HS gets too political (and is anything but beautiful) and club is too driven by money.

These giant rosters are the number one cause of disgust with youth soccer. We should all organize and demand an end to it - bottom of the roster hates it and so does the top.

2023. Plays the game because she loves it. She gets that from me, I suppose. She tagged along with me for years, but never saw me when I was a college asst. I had given it up by then. But, she's a turf rat is plays it because she loves it. When that stops, she will too. Sure, there's a sacrifice or two, but that goes for everything.

Sad to hear of kids doing things they don't want to, spending so much time and money on it as well.

Cherish your time with them. Hate to think of this conversation when they are 22 and you talk about how miserable her teen years were.

If ECNL truly wanted try to kill GDA (outside of southern CA) they could do it with a handful more key defections:

                South East- Top Hat
Mid Atlantic- FC Virginia and 1 or 2 of Penn Fusion, PA Classics or Pipeline (Baltimore Armor)
                North East- NEFC
Mid West- Cincinnati Development Academy and Nationals
Texas-Solar, FC Dallas and 1 of either OK Energy or Lonestar.

So that's 7-10 teams (pushing the league to about 112, depending on Solar & Top Hat getting 2 team deals) and GDA would be all but done from a quality of club and travel perspective.

That would just leave CA where GDA is still very strong with Surf, Galaxy, Legends, Beach & Albion. In the end if ECNL wins the league could end up at about 120 teams once CA is factored in.
What are the chances NEFC gets back in?

not zero, but effectively zero. Stars would rather chew their own arms off than to let that happen.

Slim to none but Solar already defected to ECNL, Lonestar Boys announced ECNL All-In earlier this year so an announcement from the girls side could be coming any day now and there are rumblings that Pipeline is next to get "promoted" into ECNL and they are breaking off their partnership with BA.

Please explain how Stars has leverage on what clubs are “allowed” into the ECNL?

Of six founding members, 2 clubs carry two teams each in the ECNL. PDA and Stars.
