I see nothing analogous about the girls scouts and the billions dollar big business high end youth sports industry. When the soccer instruction is from dedicated volunteers and the travel and accommodations are cars and tents instead of airplanes and hotels then we can talk.

No? Girls Scouts is almost a $100,000,000 business.

But, no, I have no need to talk. I could care less about convincing you to do anything. I'll send my money where I like, and you do the same. When I am asked to pass the hat for our club, most will, some won't, and it's left at that.

The constant defending I find rather interesting, though. Felling a little guilty are we?

Girls scouts is not even in the same universe as club soccer as far as being exclusionary by income. You clearly have distain for the peasants involved in girls scouts but know this everyone. The girls scout will welcome kids into the organization that club soccer would not touch with a ten foot pole due to their inadequate bank accounts

These scholarships are not going to some random low income kid. They are going to talented and highly motivated kids who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it.

Why is this important to you? It's GOOD for the clubs, which means it's good for our kids. The talent and motivation these kids bring will help our kids be stronger players as teammates and opponents.

I know all of us aren't rich, but we are somewhat privileged if we can come up with this kind of money for club fees. We work hard to give our kids the best, but the fundraising requirement is such a tiny fraction of what we pay in club fees, so suck it up and bring some talent into your club.

FYI: You may want to watch what you say on the sidelines. That talented kid on your team that you cheer for may be one of the kids receiving a scholarship.

This is not difficult to understand. Club can comp whoever they please. If they are skimming off my fees to cover it - I object. That is my right. You are happy to help cover the player. That is your right.

I feel that girl scouts is a worthy charity and deluxe club soccer is not. That in my right. You feel differently and that is your right.

All true. But, I thought this thread was about "fundraising"? Not skimming fees.

Our club does have a few different fundraising efforts which goes toward player and college scholarships. Most contribute, some do not. It's anon besides the hat-passer.

You have your right to abstain or contributed. Couldn't care less. To somehow position is as "disdain" for Girl Scouts is comedy. They thrive on fundraising and I have nothing against them or their model. It's a multi-billion dollar organization which a major chunk comes from fundraising. Good for them if it works.

I only interjected into this TS pizzing contest to state:

1) This is nothing new; youth sports have been asking for donations to fund things for, literally, decades. Personally, I usually put in something for the kids out there asking strangers for $$$. Sucks to be doing it, honestly.

2) My personal opinion is to donate where I see fit. I'd much rather send any extraneous cash to those whom I want vs. who the Gov't tells me to.

What, whatever is good for the club is good for my kid? Hardly. Must be someone in club management posting this. And the scholarship might go to a random low income kid or it might go to the superstar rich kid the club is trying to recruit with free tuition.

These talented players that you speak of, will probably never play with a majority of the players of a club at most levels. So how does it benefit them? It doesn’t. You just don’t get it.
You can pay their way if you want to.
Would you let your employer take money from your paycheck, to give to new hired “talent”? Why not? Wouldn’t it make your company better?

Very few clubs are non profits so it makes getting financial information impossible. Most are private entities, for a reason - they don't want anyone looking at their financials! If a non profit files a 990 it just shows totals. It won't show who scholarships went to. Ask your club? Good luck getting a straight answer.

Correct. Our club has a separate operating entity which is run as a charitable foundation, and they publish the details for those who wish to question it.
