To bad Braintree can't play Weymouth every game they would have a great record. How does Weymouth drop points to a team like Braintree? I'm sure Braintree tried a bit harder seeing it is Weymouth but come on.
If Weymouth plays down to teams levels I see a first round loss this year.

Newton North boys’ soccer wins Bay State Conference title

The Newton North boys’ soccer team had been shut out at home, 2-0, by Wellesley, on Tuesday afternoon.

‘‘One of our goals was to not lose two games in a row, because good teams don’t do that,’’ said North coach Roy . And in particular, not a Tiger squad determined to capture the program’s first outright Bay State Conference title since 1998.

So sixth-ranked North hit the road and took down No. 12 Needham, 3-1, Thursday afternoon at DeFazio Field to secure the crown.

North (12-2-3 overall, 9-2-2) seized a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a goal from senior Martin and doubled the margin thanks to a 38th-minute strike from defender Filippo , a senior captain.

A 67th-minute goal by junior forward Matt all but iced it, but with four minutes left, Needham’s Sam scored on a penalty kick to end P.J. shutout bid.

‘‘They rose [to the challenge],’’ said Dow, in his ninth season. ‘‘Needham also competes at a high level, and we rose to that challenge.’’

Needham (12-2-5, 9-2-2), the Bay State Herget leader, will close their regular season Monday against Brookline.

This game gives me a lot more confidence in Newton North heading into the tournament.

I'm going to try to be a bit more positive with my posts. Usually I try to call things as I see them, but also have to remind myself that these are high school kids as well. I've been doing this every fall since back of the days the Boston Globe had the forums, it's been at least 10 years, but sometimes forget that.

What in the world has happened to Weymouth?

How is the BSC title determined? I assume only in-conference games count towards it.

Are wins counted as 2 or 3 points for standings?

Lost D1 Caliber Striker in June to a Torn ACL which has had a huge impact on them. Then their next best striker hurt his knee 3 weeks ago and goals have just been a struggle to come by and they give up too many soft goals off mistakes or set pieces. I wouldn’t count them out in the playoffs but I also wouldn’t expect much either.

There are two divisions, Herget and Carey, as far as the MIAA is concerned. Needham won the Herget; NN the Carey.

Winning the league overall is more of a bragging rights sort of thing, but still important to the schools, I'm sure; especially when it ended up that they played so late in the season.

Everyone plays 14 league games, two against your own division, one against the other. Some teams play a second inter-division game but it's designated before the season which game is a league game and which one is not.

The MIAA says NN is 10-2-2; which is probably right; otherwise Needham would still have had a shot with a game left to play.

                      If he's a senior that's a shame.

Carey (NN, Wellesley, Brookline, Framingham, Natick) and Herget (Needham, Milton, Braintree, Walpole, Weymouth) have 5 teams each so I think they only play 13 games in the conference: 8 in the division and 5 against other division.

I think MIAA site incorrectly shows NN having played 2 conference games against Walpole. They are not in same division and I believe the first one of those was an extra non conference game.

Similarly Needham played Natick twice even though they are not in same division - one of those was non-conference - the MIAA lists this one correctly. Natick beat Needham 2-1 in the conference game and then Needham beat Natick 4-1 a week later in the non-conference game.

Needham already played their sole conference game against Brookline. They do play them again last game of season on Monday but that is correctly listed on the MIAA site as non conference.

I think they both finished 9-2-2 in the BSC, so I guess the head to head was used as tiebreaker?

It is kind of apples to oranges since they don't play the same teams the same number of times. Carey was the stronger division this year and given yesterday's result probably deserved for NN to have the BSC title, but was just curious about how they officially determine tiebreakers vs co-champs.

He was a senior unfortunately. As a sophomore scored 18 goals. As a junior had a down year and scored 10/11. Would’ve made a huge difference this year for Weymouth, lost the best player in the league before the season started due to a summer league injury. He was looking at D1 school like UNH, UVM, NU, Providence, and UMass. Granted one player doesn’t solve weymouths numerous problems but have a true goal score would make a difference in their record 6-3-8... id say they’d most likely be 11-2-4 at worst and competing in the league and have a legitimate shot at the D1 South

A legit 15 goal scorer can make all the difference in HS Soccer---even most good teams don't have them
