I'll tell you one kid on this list that doesn't have the potential....my kid! There is no way he's getting anywhere near an MLS draft board. But right now he's as happy and confident as I've ever seen him and so are half a dozen of his buddies on this list. He's got no delusions of grandeur. He know's this is the last stop before he goes out to pasture with the rest of the old guys playing on Sunday mornings on our local pitch. Because he will never be a pro doesn't make it feel any less special.

Great that you feel that your kid is special, but is he someone everyone really needs to know about? Lots of happy and confident seniors out there? Who needs the pat on the back, you or him?

I'd just like to know who the psycho adults are so I can avoid them on the sideline.

Early action or academic concession. Makes a difference.

$160,000 guaranteed for 4 years or $40,000 per year not guaranteed. Makes a difference.

Scholarship or merit money or financial aide. Makes a deference.

By people who have no idea what the actual facts of the situation are. That allows the real nuts like above to brag about their kid getting a $40k a year in meet/FA to some second tier D3 (NESCAC’s don’t give merit) and pass it off like club soccer helped them hit the lottery. There is something off about them for sure.

I didn't get that impression at all - kid is playing club in college so he wasn't recruited, no athletic concession. OP said "study more", not that soccer got his kid into a good school.

You can't argue with Paul. His overwhelming need is to put everyone, and I mean everyone, and their kid, down.

The sad part of a thread like this is from strictly a soccer perspective most of the players on this list are looked upon as failures. Sure parents have something to be proud of, but it should be in the same sort of context as the pride when their kid graduates this spring. There’s very few here on a list like this that have an actual shot at turning their youth club soccer experience into any sort of significant soccer career at the collegiate level. Threads like this really just champion those who have the means to throw a whole lot of money at engineering what the parent sees as their kid’s rightful due instead of letting it happen organically. With the sort that start and actively feed threads like this it’s all about top shelf brands instead of quality.

So you accuse the guy of being vague in the service of his grandiosity, and then when corrected, instead of saying "my bad," you then find a completely different angle to be disparaging about.
