You may feel that way when your player is on the bench for four years at a D1 school. People play ECNL (or should) for the best competition. If all you care about is where you play in college then the future is probably not bright for you, because you probably do not love the game.

We should keep this thread going and track playing time over all four years and job placement after graduation. That will be interesting. Some of these D1 commits will end up coaching at Stars. LOL

          But, why?

Worst thing you can say is someone tried, and it didn't work out.

Best thing you can say is they got to play against the best competition and travelled around and had a shltload of fun doing.

Or, maybe, for many reasons beside actually quality of soccer play, the kid found it to be the perfect school for them.

None of these would possibly be anything I could consider being upset about.

This right here! Parents on this page look at their kid’s soccer commitment as the only result that matters (“You better play D1 if you played ECNL!”) while a TON of people in the real world don’t care one iota what division of soccer you played.

And I’m not even talking about academics alone, although that’s a huge part (“Dad! I got accepted to Johns Hopkins! Daughter, you played ECNL and therefore you WILL go D1. Call the coach from Prairie View A&M NOW!”) but just about fit. Maybe your 17 year old wants a small D2 in Vermont and not a big D1. Who cares? Did she have fun all those years? Did you make memories? Sure hope so. I’ll miss the times we shared and I don’t care one bit what division she plays in college.

First off congrats to the Scorpions player. That team is good and she will love playing D2. Playing college soccer is such a great experience. I loved it! My friends who played D1 and D3 as well as college club loved it. D2 colleges offer athletic money. My guess is this player received to right amount of scholarships/aid, and they had an academic major that fits. Anyway it’s nobody’s business. My kid is on an ECNL team. She loves the competition and the high standards her coaches put in place. We are hoping she goes D2, that would be incredible. I wish there were more D2 colleges around here! We need the aid, scholarships, all she can get. D1 is not the best fit for our kid. She would be on the bench and too much time commitment. Everyone is different.

And therein lies the rub. Great to go D1, but are they getting money to go? Different families need different answers. Getting a 50% scholarship to BC still is paying 45k a year. Is that better than getting everything paid for at umass? Or going ivy and getting nothing?

Scorpions has a great GK coach. The rest of the coaching staff is horrible.

ha this is funny. I know there are plenty of ECNL players on teams with rosters of 25 players who see the bench and don’t play much. But hey, you get to tell people you played the best competition, right?

                                Could have been 5-1.
