      Many top players aren’t in ECNL for a number of reasons.

        "Many" = a handful @ NEFC. That's about it.

          By U16, yes. At the younger ages, more are scattered around.

            it’s laughable how people post as if they are
            some kind of all knowing authority on all players, clubs, and leagues.

              It’s laughable how people post and think they are some kind of all knowing authority on the “many top players” not on ECNL rosters and how those many players would stack up against the 60 or so kids who are presently on ECNL teams.

                Its a small state and by this age the better players are well known. There's not many hiding in the woodwork waiting for discovery.

                  Nobody said that. It’s not hard to show - there are kids who could be on blue or white, but aren’t. Nobody said they knew who all of them were, except the clown above.

                    Don’t think anyone said that at all. Point was there are kids who could play for any of the ECNL teams. Those teams realize that their coaches are still recruiting players , right ?

                      There are certainly kids out there that could play for ECNL teams. But how many are starters, or top five? Those are the kids that are wanted. Lots of kids that are 15-22 on an ECNL roster. But the ECNL kids have accepted their fate of cleanup and showcase duty. Why bring on a DPL kid who will go directly to the bench and complain about lack of playing time?

                        Yes there are players that are more iinterchangeable with the bottom half of a roster, especially at U14 or so when the dust is still settling. Some of them don't want the grind or cost of ECNL, it's simply too far, whatever. Will they progress further in 4 years playing more in a weaker league vs playing less in a stronger one? No one can say for sure. Absolutely playing matters but so does coaching, quality of competition and teammates. Add in the better exposure and better known club names and most ECNL clubs have little trouble filling rosters. If your local ECNL club is awful aka FSA? Looking elsewhere makes a whole lot of sense. Less so with a name brand club like Stars

                          In my view, having my daughter at a GA and now ECNL club over the past few years, at the younger ages there was clear separation between top of the roster, middle of the roster and bottom 4-5 players. However, by U16, the roster is much closer in ability. So, instead of having kids at U13- U15 stretch between A, A-, B+, B, B- & C+, now it’s more like the difference between A, A- & B+. There are very few B or below players left on these rosters. Maybe 0-3 B grade players per team.

                          There are certainly kids still out there who are interchangeable with the B+ players, but those kids aren’t bumping a player off a roster with like ability. Plus, if a player is well liked, hard working, been at the club a long time, no attitude issues, etc., then forget it.

                          As to the very few A- players out there, it would come down to a need at their position, injuries, so they bring something the team doesn’t already have, etc.

                          As for A players, I’m sure they could make a roster, but you are talking about, my guess, 1-4 players who would fit the description as someone who a coach just would not pass on. Even then, that kid might end up adding one extra player instead of bumping someone.

                            Based on the above, is it better to switch to ECNL at U13/U14 as a middle of team player (8-13) or wait until you know for sure you would make Blue in the later years?

                              How would anyone know what their ability would be as compared to competing players years down the road?

                                not to mention you will rarely get agreement between coaches which kids are the 8-13. It’s definitely subjective.
