The level of play between DPL and Impact NPL is roughly the same....the founding Impact teams were DPL teams until 2 weeks before the DPL season a couple of years back.....but what the Impact league and DPL league can offer in terms of showcases etc. are not the same. And as this thread tells us it doesn't matter what your w/l record is it's all about those showcases and college coach eyeballs

Not for everybody. Believe it or not there are players who aren't planning to play soccer in college.

DPL showcase in FL this week was well worth the trip. Very happy with it

Agree. Good fields, well run, and the weather cooperated (not that DPL can control that part). My daughter had a lot of fun with her team and had even matchups for the entire event.

Chance they will merge back? All of these splits and leagues no good. Makes for more club hopping. Now that impact players hear DPL is better exposure the impact players will jump. Not good for teams, kids and coaches.

I’ve heard some like Aztec have been trying, might happen if they get acquired by 3 step. But the more impact promotes itself the less likely it may be since Aztec essentially runs Impact. Better for all the impact dpl clubs to join back together more varied competition for the players.

Exactly. They wanted a more local league without so much travel for families. A noble goal. Unfortunately this will cause players who want to play in college to jump to other leagues. Impact is not, and will not get quality college exposure. Good option for kids looking to play only through high school.

And yet a lot of impact teams travel to tournaments anyways they didn’t like mandatory showcases.or they wanted to pick their tourneys.

Impact was formed because the founder wanted to run things and didn't get along with other club owners in the area. What you said is a good marketing line though

Impact was formed because of LL/Select thirst for control. They have no access to ECNL. GA is run without their influence. When NEP folded their influence over the vast majority of their teams went away with it. They are along for the ride with GA & NECSL with no control whatsoever. DPL was putting them in the same position, which took away their last vestige of controlling the message/marketing of their exclusive access to a “patch “ league. Impact provides that. Same for Aztec. The sheep like Liverpool, Best and SPOL followed. As soon as those clubs wake up and get back in DPL the three paths will be:

ECNL (and ECNL-R) (Stars & Scorpions)

GA (& DPL for clubs that have both)
(NEFC & Seacoast)

DPL (for smaller clubs as their top platform)
(Juventus, Mass City, etc.)

There is no need for Impact. None.

Legit question - who is keeping NE Surf out of GA? The seem to have memberships in both ECNL and GA in other regions so I can't believe they wouldn't enter into one of those leagues here in NE instead of capping at DPL. I know who's keeping them out of ECNL but which of the two local GA clubs is blocking them out of GA??

Surf is basically a franchise operation so each location decides what it wants to do. This area doesn't need another GA club and they probably have never even applied

The real Surf (in CA) just allows clubs to license the name for a fee. They have no interest in what league NE or RI Surf play in. They get the same amount of money from them regardless. It’s not a conspiracy. ECNL and GA already have enough (probably more than enough) teams in New England. If players want ECNL or GA, there are several options available for those that can make it.
