My kids have been in teams where the hierarchy was pretty accurate and some not so much. If you take your kid out of it entirely though, on almost every team, can’t you honestly question why at least 3 kids start and play a lot more than 3 other particular kids? Coaches often get stuff stuck in their head .... from what a kid was able to against peers years ago (or couldn’t do) but can never do now vs what a kid can do in practice against any cone on the field ( but you never see in a game) vs their pedigree (wow, that kid plays on NEFC ..... must be good) but they are on NEFC D team.

Been through all this more than once now with multiple kids. Talked to many, many parents over the years about exactly these issues. Struggled with it myself for awhile with one kid when I perceived we were getting the short end of coach's bias. My main take away after all of it: the parents are almost always wrong. I realize you'll disagree. Odds are you're wrong too.

I was in that bucket myself when my daughter was young. But, I found the coach welcoming to a discussion and he clearly explained his reasoning. Credit to him as he wasn't defensive, and laid a clear path for what he saw in her then, and in the future. As my kid hit college, she reached back to him and thanked him.

Works when the team is well managed in a good environment. Doesnt work well when you have parents exerting pressure on the club, through money or siblings, to push kids out of the way for their own kids. Last club we were at, my kid was pushed out of position because of this and at the time it was pretty surprising but then we saw the same thing happen to three other kids within the following year. All of whom were more technical and more athletic than the one who stayed. Turned out, every time the coach wanted to bring in a new player at that spot, the incumbent's parent called the DOC who stepped in to make sure that didnt happen. Only later on did other parents in the inner circle basically say they knew that was happening. Then the club acts hurt when you let them know you're leaving. It is truly amazing.
Things like that make you question your kid, so while its true it should be easy to see, sometimes there are things happening outside that really screw up your ability to just evaluate on play. For parents that are not knowledgeable about the game or have no experience, it is impossible. Then you really understand how they get taken advantage of by the clubs and trainers.

I'm guessing the club would tell a completely different story here and "inner circle" parents are often not the best source of info. But I do agree with one piece which is that the clubs are first interested in your money. They are all businesses. Which is why I laugh at all the posts on here from parents who have essentially become fans of a business. After money, however, the coaches/clubs do like to win and advance players to college. It helps them attract more kids which helps them make money. There are exceptions (and they do make mistakes in judging young players at times - I'm sure every club has some players that left that they wish they'd done something different with) and politics are sometimes involved but most of the time if your kid is good, has potential, is athletic etc. they will play. I really don't know many coaches that actually prefer playing inferior players.

Are everyone’s seasons done at this point aside from the NEFC & SSS “friendly” events later in November?

Stars Cup early December. Hearing good ECNL teams are registering so that eliminates SSS for sure.

                    You mean Stars Friendlies?

Just received an email from south shore select this morning about tryouts next week. It says they have spots open on every team. Okie dokie....sign my daughter up. From what posters have said:

                      1. let me pay the highest fees in Massachusetts by far. 1/2 year at south shore select is a full payment at her current club
                      2. let my daughter play with 20 other girls on the 07 team
                      3. let my daughter play like 3 games in the spring. This fall she has played 15 already.

Sounds like a good plan-lol. Where do I sign my daughter up?!?!

Wait. They don’t tell you where to sign up in the email?

hahaha they clearly do. So I guess your daughter doesn't even need to try out at south shore select anymore to make a top team. Sad! Good point!

You can tryout by Zoom if your check clears. More spots available. Sign up quick, you don’t want to be left out!

I’m sure there are spots open on every team. People are fleeing that club, for good reason.

Maybe she should be training more and playing less
