Most of them have vacation homes, boats and so on, and would rather enjoy that last decent weather holiday weekend, than be at some soccer tournament.

That might be true for NEP families, but not the families on the top team. Not buying that.

Are SPOL & Aztec also sitting on the sidelines for Columbus Day?

I for one am happy not to be traveling to a tournament at this time. Driving would be fine, where i could return to my own bed at night. Is staying in hotels the best decision at this time for families and players? I think not.

I don’t know that it’s ever been the best decision to be honest. The travel has gotten absurd over the past decade. Can you help me understand, though, what it is about staying in hotels that makes you think it’s not a good decision now?

Yes, seriously. I’m aware we are in a pandemic. Is it the crowds at hotels that aren’t a good idea? The masklessness? Surfaces? Are there hotel superspreader events I am unaware of?

I prefer to err on of the side of caution. Plenty of years ahead for tournaments..it doesn’t mean anything at these ages. We’re talking about 7-8 th graders, correct??!

That’s understandable. The few hotels my d’s team has stayed at haven’t really been an issue. There’s not as much social activity as in previous years, but people are masked in public spaces, they keep their distance, and common areas are used very little by guests of the hotel. If I had to judge, I’d say it’s probably no less safe safe than going to the grocery store.

Seacoast tournament and CFC both in driving distance, no hotel needed for those that are weary about staying overnight??

I've had to do some travel for work. Hotel rooms and all that not an issue - in fact they go overboard to prove it's all clean. In theory you're supposed to wear masks in hallways, lobbies etc. What's out is some of the things you look for if traveling for a tournament - depending on the state, breakfast and coffee stations are closed. Those in room coffee makers suck :) and you have to sort out breakfast each day. Indoor pools closed also.

Of course you're also assuming no flying. It's not the Covid risk but flying just sucks now because you have to stay masked for hours. I would only drive.

Not the op and of course. Younger kids don't need to be traveling all over. Maybe one positive of Covid is it reins in some of the insanity. Do local/regional events that everyone can drive to, even better if no overnights are required, but two days max to limit hotel commitments.
