Park yourself down by the goal line during the game. That's how I handle it. The scrum tends to stay by the center line. Make niceties before and after the game, and go to one team dinner a year.

A better question is at what point should parents (usually that "dad") stop yelling to their daughters in the game? Seriously, by now the D's could run circles around them but they insist they know the sport better than anyone. Please man just stop and let your D be coached by the people you are paying. I'm waiting for that first middle finger to come up mid-game and the shock and awe.... (is that a red card?)

Yeah, this is usually the hardest part to be quiet. I'll toot my horn and say I am more familiar with the game than like 90% of the people on the sidelines. But, I do know how to STAFU. I will try to ensure I say something positive to every player out there (and even the opponent as necessary), but I will not "coach".

My D actually turned to our sideline once when a parent was yelling instructions and said "coach doesn't want us to do that". Could've heard a pin drop after that.

But, also, I do understand that cheering leads into instructing and it's hard to keep it in line. I've yelled thousands of instructions to players on the ice/field/pitch/court on the TV while "cheering". They don't listen to me, either.

Anyone else worth watching for the 2020 spring list? Too early to rank them, as there has been some player movement and some teams have played all winter while others haven’t done much.

Add in couple pre-DA league games:

I am still amazed how from week to week (even on my kid's team .... which is supposedly in one of the two highest level leagues, parents are clueless .... we get beat by a decent or mediocre team because of our own poor play and then we slaughter some sorry team the next week and they think we have miraculously gotten over the hump ... as if the entire team (and coaches) just figured it all out in 6 days .... rather than taking into account the ability and athleticism of our opponents relative to ours. And then their are the refs, who apparently have it in for us in every loss, but dont play a factor when we are beating bad teams. Every week I seem to find more and more irony in something! :)

The imaginary scores are my favorite. We lost 2-0, but one was a BS call leading to a pk and little Sally was definitely not off side on her goal so it was really 1-1. Mmmkay.

I stopped in the middle of U12, sane me and insane me happened to be both present for a split second.. sanity won out, thankfully. Now I just look on as other parents do it and think ...I remember that feeling, they'll figure it out

U-12 is when most sane people stop, but if you need an incentive to stop imagine the following will happen if you don’t:

1) you will turn your kid off to the point they quit
2) eventually you’ll run into the coach who will either bench or cut them rather than deal with your behavior
3) recruiters can spot not just the nutty parents, but also the kid who has been conditioned not to think for themselves on or off the field. That’s an immediate pass.
