Besides parents that have been granted the proverbial pass to play with friends for last few years, no one cares either. Every kid was given the time to get this game and hone their skills and fitness ….. you never thought it would matter but it is now starting too and only gets a little harder each year. My advice is to understand that it is not personal and time to help your kid take stock of their game relative to their peers. If they are average then they need to work harder and fix their deficits. If it’s not worth it anymore then whatever. This is the wake up call for many. Some kids will dig their heels in and work harder to show people. Some will stop playing. And the masses will accept new spots on perceived lower teams (where most will remain because they go with the flow ….. some will love the new spotlight a new team can bring and become A players and leaders in their new roles). In any case, don’t blame anyone, just help your kid wade through what type of player they want to be and help them to get there if they need a push. The best thing that ever happens to every top player in the world is being told “no”. This is a pivot point for your kid. How will you and they respond and handle it.
