I can agree that SM has a strong cult-like following, but I don’t get that sense about JB. Most people just view him as a soccer coach. If they both left Stars tomorrow, JB might have a small handful of players follow him, but SM would have entire teams follow him.

Maybe. Probably. I think SM has had more interaction at 06 and younger age groups than JB so it may be the view is a bit skewed on the 07 thread.

Might be true but the situation will apply to all leagues. If states allow games and travel, GA will play. If the states disallow it, they won't. That will be the same for everyone else, too. I do know that GA schedules were generally back loaded towards oc/Nov to account for the HS play, which is why they should have followed the same league structure as ECNL and NPL always have, just to make it easier.

Except this is an 07 thread so no HS soccer yet in the fall, where are the GAL games, if youo don't play you can't be ranked

About time for a pre-season list, wouldn't you say? Too early to tell how the teams will look this year. If you can believe what you read inhere, big changes on the ECNL rosters and no changes on the GA rosters. The teams were close in strength last year and should be even tighter this year.

Top five contenders for "baddest little team in the land" are (in alphabetical order):

FC Stars Blue ECNL
FC Stars White ECNL
NEFC GA
Scorpions ECNL
South Shore Select GA

Those are the five list teams for the year. Will be very tricky making comparisons but if (let's all hope) the girls have a season the GA and ECNL teams won't be playing each other this year aside from the slim chance of 1. Actually having a Thanksgiving or Memorial Day tournament and 2. Getting all the teams to show up at the same tournament.

So, there are going to be a lot of apples to oranges comparisons between the quality of the GA v. ECNL games.

I fully expect NEFC & SSS to run over Oakwood, Seacoast, STA, LISC, NYSC and Cedar Stars every weekend.

On the other hand I expect the NE ECNL to be very competitive. FSA won't be great, but SUSA, World Class, East Meadow, CFC & PDA White are all tough opponents and Scorpions and Stars Blue & White will be tested every game.

Hard to tell. Only NEFC's fate is certain because they haven't played in ages and with little to no player movement improves less. Sad really.
