My overall experience with Stars and what they do with kids is not a positive one. Some people have a different experience and think it's great.

When clubs a fraction of the size of Stars can put a better product on the field every sunday - something is wrong - Stars is a large corporation they should have top level teams and talent in all age groups for both boys and girls and they don't.

This is my opinion - others may feel different

Across all age groups or just some particular ones?

Reason I ask...first...I am not a Stars parent. But, I am familiar with a couple of age groups and without a doubt, they offer the best girls teams in New England. They weren't even touched playing in Northeast NPL. They just trounced SSS in the State Cup.

The thread is 2007 Girls. FC Stars doesn't have one team in Premiership. This may be their weakest age group for whatever reason.

Not a Stars parent but my 08 d is friends with a few girls who play for Stars and those girls are 08s and 09s - I can only speak for one region but both of the Stars 2007 teams in that region are made up almost entirely of 08s and 09s.

Please stop talking about Premiership. Nobody cares about NEP. They will take their 2/3 best girls from every 07 team and would crush all NEP teams and this includes girls many girls who played 2006. You are the only one looking at Premiership standings. Stars did not pool until this upcoming year. Check back again in fall to see how your NEP teams do.

I went to tryouts for both teams and the level of talent they are recruiting is not 'top" talent at all. They are looking for bodies not players. My daughter is an average player and she competed with these girls.

Again NPL and Pre-ECNL is just a name at FC Stars - the players on these teams are not even close to the level of talent on the NEFC Elite South Shore Select or Liverpool.

It's a sales pitch to generate more money.

FC Stars is the puppy mill of soccer.
My daughter attended one day of the tryout and we were not at all impressed and didn’t return for the remaining tryouts. I agree with your statement. I believe any team in the premiership would easily beat this 07 group that Stars has. Can’t build a strong group eith every age group. Not looking good for Stars 07s

You are in the 2007 thread so premiership is the highest level of play. Everyone knows that bigger clubs will pool their players. If they didn't they could never compete with clubs like Select that actually develops teams and players.

That makes no sense. A club will pull players from wherever their footprint reaches. SSS does a fine job with a smaller footprint. Others pull them in, and then develops from there.

Where they are before coming into the team is irrelevant.

SSS takes a back seat at some ages

So are most of the FC Stars U13/14 ECNL players home grown talent or recruited from other clubs?

I would say it is relevant. Bigger clubs are always looking for the new player from other clubs. From what I have seen they do not promote many players from within. Why would they pool at younger ages and force extra travel?

Am I correct that 07s are current 4th-5th graders?
If so, this isn't surprising. Better to play local with friends at a good enough club.
The best players will migrate to Stars when the time is right

Regardless of if or when they migrate you are right about the travel. Why spend all the money to travel and burn out 4th and 5th graders. As these kids get to high school and know what they want some of those things may make more sense. Can't strip the fun of playing sports from young athletes. In an ideal worls they could play locally but also do extra training to push those who need it.

What if the travel is part of the fun?

Agreed! Seriously it's not much traveling for U11.... Mass, NH, RI? My friends who do hockey have it much worse. I suppose if they get really good in a few years and have to fly somewhere, that would be a drag on the wallet, but my kid would love the hotels and restaurants. But really, are there any 2007 teams traveling beyond New England?

The stronger teams are. NEFC Central & SSS went to NJ in April & SSS played in PA in August & NC in November last two years. SOL goes to Jeff Cup in VA in March.
