No it wasn't. It was kitty the whole time.

Different clubs handle it differently. There is no right or wrong answer. While I would prefer to see clubs handle the coaches' travel cost our of the base fee, I've seen it both ways. I have been a manager a few times over years and when I have, I have demanded that someone handle the kitty and to keep meticulous records. The more you travel, the more it costs. And for older teams, you have to factor in the cost of brochures, taping games -if your team is into that, and yes, the occasional additional unscheduled tournament.

I've managed teams as well, and obviously am the parent side also. As a manager and from the club perspective it's far easier to just include everything in one lump fee rather than trying to collect from families on an ad hoc basis. As a parent I'd also rather just pay one fee. I don't mind paying for an unplanned tourney but I know that most decent sized clubs can afford to pay for a coach's hotel for two nights. If a team needs video or other recruiting efforts that should be included in the fee as well. Parents get tired of schools, clubs etc going to the well all the time.

NPL/NEP Coach here. I ask my "team managers/coordinators" to start a team slush fund to put towards the printing of our profile sheet, for weekend tournament supplies such as drinks, snacks etc. and team dinners.

Typically this is for when we travel out of state and are in a hotel.

I usually try to roster 20-22 players, each contributing $10-$20 and this will last us an entire season, Thanksgiving through Summer.

                And how many play?
Biggest scam in the NEP-rosters of 22.

For my NEP player, we usually give $100-$150 per year for extra tournaments/coaches travel expenses and used leftover for team party. I was a manager and we had to keep very specific and detailed accounting for which we shared with the team at the end of the season. My other child plays at top level, and we pay more for that. Closer to $250-$300 per year.

So much for a "development" league with a roster of 22.

GPS parent here and we don't add anything beyond our initial fees. Parents usually get together at the end of the year and we kick in $10-20/each for a gift card. That's it.

I've never seen a coaches' gift given in 10 years of club. Very interesting.

I can't think of a time when one wasn't given, no matter the sport. Even when I played. Shoot, guy that runs our men's team gets a 30-pack and a roll of toilet paper at the end of the season (there's a story behind it). When I coached, parents would get me something small. It's a thank you to the coach, nothing more, anonymous and voluntary.

Bus driver, teachers, etc. all get the same.

Your thank you is your paycheck. Every volunteer and school team gives one, it's just not that common with club.

going on 6 years with my daughter and we have had a few different coaches and we always give the coach a gift at the holidays and the end of the year, teams I have been with have always done this and we give the TM one too!!!

Your pay check goes to the club just like your taxes go to your town or payment to your private school to pay for the school coach or teaches, why would you not give these people a gift?

Even a D&D gift card.....a good coach and TM deserve to get a little something extra.

Team kitty amount always depends on where your team is going and traveling to, if you are off to Disney, CASL, Jeff Cup, PDA, Vegas and San Diego you are going to have to spend quite a bit, if you are just staying local then not so much, depends on the team and where they go. and if you have a team travel all over the country and do not give your TM or Coach a little something extra then you are one cheap SOB, I would loose your kids player card real quick!
