FWIW a friend of a friend recently joined an mls organization (rapids if it matters) and said the mls academy plan is a mess and there’s very little motivation and organization to make it happen. He said it will be a mess this year (maybe up and running by January. Maybe). If they play this fall it won’t be a league just games and showcase weekends with only mls teams. Not motivated to go play a league that will have teams that were bottom feeder DA teams and/or weren’t even DA.

MLS teams aren't playing non-MLS teams in this league. He seems pretty dead right. MLS needs the non-MLS teams to pay for the MLS teams. Good luck with this league if you aren't with the Revs.

Not a major change. If you are looking to get recruited, the Revs have never been the place to be. A large chunk of the few players they list as recruited were recruited when they were elsewhere. Revs recruiting has long been a joke.

The Revs suck on many levels, but at the end of the day it's a business. The entire "league" (quotes intentional) is about finding the few golden nuggets that may turn pro one day. Anything under U15 is a bit too early too tell; 17+ there's not much left there to see. MLS clubs are focusing on the sweet spot to separate the wheat from the chafe. They don't give two shi*s about college aspirations.

The MLS released a statement about the new league that said the Major League Soccer “Professional Pathway” division will offer competition in the U15 and U17 age groups.

What more does anyone need to know?

The Revs have the Bolts, NEFC, Seacoast and Valeo U13, U14 and U15 teams in the “Elite Player Pathway” to poach from. That relinquishes them from the need to field teams at any of those age groups.

If the MLS hasn’t identified you as a potential pro by U17, it’s simply not going to happen. Why in the world would they bother to field a fully funded U19 team full of decent players that may, or may not play on some college team somewhere?

Now, can I see them making a U19 team pay-to-play, and letting them square off against the local ex-DA teams? I guess it’s a possibility.

Revs have indicated that after U17 they will have a subset of kids move on to Revolution II and not have any U18/19 Makes sense actually. If you are not ready to sign a pro contract at 17/18, why should they pay for a college-related process.
