Arena could care less about homegrowns, he wants proven commodities that can make an immediate impact. He won’t be here long enough for a DA 2004 to see the field. He’s gone in 3-4 years. Guys like him are successful because they focus on aspects of the club most likely to generate dividends on the field. In his mind he may as well paint the locker room rather than invest time and money on the DA.

Kraft might give him what he wants with the first time. Kraft won't spend a nickel more on the academy teams. The first team makes him a little money, DA does not.

'Where' they are made is coaches. It's not a stretch to think Arena will judge who is competent at the academy level and who isn't and deal with it. It's a stretch to think he wouldn't do this.

It’s a stretch to think Arena will be here long enough to necessitate spending a millisecond on the Academy. Any time, energy and assets put against a DA program even the Krafts don’t care about is wasted. Arena is too result oriented.

Revs made the playoffs. That'll do. The ambition is limited. Because the Krafts don't care if they win the MLS Cup. Just put some butts in Gillette, and maybe for a couple more games. The Patriots are back and any conflicts with the Revs are hassles. You get what you pay for - in this case he's getting nothing because he invests nothing. Look at how Atlanta and several other cities have rallied locals to support the MLS teams, strong attendance numbers, people swearing team swag. That's how you build a franchise, not by doing the bare minimum.
