Any truth to the rumor that we’re cutting most of our U15 team after the showcase?

MLS U19 League
Now that the MLS is breaking with the USSDA at the U19 level to form their own league what are your predictions for the local ramifications?
1. It will probably streamline the pipeline at the Revs. They’ll get their wish and attract athletes with no college aspirations. The issue for them will be the vast number of very talented players that will avoid the organization going forward because this pathway no longer aligns with their more reasonable goals.
2. Rosters will shrink at every level. It will be expensive to fly a U19 team all over the country to play other MLS squads. The money has to come from somewhere. The Krafts aren’t going to hemorrhage any more money for youth soccer. Age groups may be dropped.
3. Northeast college coaches certainly aren’t going to travel to watch these games, nor do they need to recruit from Seattle or L.A. The major issue will come when the MLS decides to expand the program to the U17 level for the 2020-2021 season. That’s the prime recruiting age. I predict a mad scramble next spring to abandon ship in Foxborough.
4. The Revs don’t stand a chance in a league where they’re forced to compete with actual MLS programs. They’re graduating most of their high performers from the current U19 team. They plan to play a select few 2003s up at U19 next year. There is no way they finish higher than the lowest third of the standings. Will there be relegation in this league?

Looks like other MLS academy programs have a different perspective.....

Press release, ceremony.....
“It’s nearly impossible to produce twelve professional players every cycle,” says Academy Director Tony Annan. “So we have to really be focused on education and getting guys into that pathway. Hopefully some of those come through that pathway out as professionals on the other end. For those that don’t, it sets them up for a good career and a good start in life at a great college.”
