Question for the OP - do you normally track Seacoast commits? Are there any? Just curious how they do relative to bolts and Revs. Seems a club like that may get hammered with ENPL

OP here. As you know some Seacoast players are from MA. I list those. Last I checked their website was not too helpful. Similarly Bolts and Revs have an occasional RI player that I leave off, and Western MA teams have CT and NY kids.

When a student accepts an Early Decision offer, it is not a "commit". A "commit" is a player who promises to attend the college in return for a promise from the coach that he will be accepted. Commits are made at least a year before attending college. Half these students applied to a college and got in early and will now show up and try to make the team. In March this board will have 150 students on it.

So that's your definition, but then the list will never be filled out with any level of assurance as to conformity with your definition because there's no way for a third party to know which kids "committed" (ie, checking third party web sites won't tell you that). No one has any way of knowing that the kids on the list already got help with Admissions (and some of the schools don't really require any help from Admissions given their acceptance rates). Nor does the fact that someone got help from the coach from Admissions necessarily mean they'll make the team at every school listed (although as a practical matter they likely won't cut them in year 1). I imagine most people view the "commit" list as a helpful listing of where various players are intending to go to school and play soccer-not who got money, who got help, who will actually get to play, etc. (although understanding that the timing of when a player is added to the list may lead one to make educated guesses as to those points).

A commit is not a promise from the school. It is an assurance from the school's admissions office that the student is *likely* to get accepted given that he/she meets specific requirements (for example a certain SAT/ACT range, maintain a 3.4 or higher GPA by end of 2nd term of senior year etc...).

Why does a club the size of GPS produce so few college players?

Because it isn't a DA club. To get on a top D1 roster these days you either need DA, prep school or a foreign passport. 2 out 3 even better

I believe this poster, if not trolling, is not asking just about D1, but posting that there are not many GPS players on this list -- at least not yet.

The U17 GPS team that came in first in NPL last year will certainly have several players going on to play at the collegiate level.

Daniel Munch-GPS-BB&N-Northeastern is one player whose status has been known for a while and is not reported here.

Club may not have announced things yet - or parents even told the club. ED decisions just went out last month and the list will grow (if prior years are any indication)

I'm guessing BB&N has more to do with this than GPS.

                            Why???

GPS coach of boys U16 State Elite is the recruiting coach at Northeastern. Teams often use substitute coaches so feasibly this coach could have had contact with the 98 NPL team. So there is some connection to GPS but obviously the private school pedigree helps. The other two Northeastern commits are also from private schools.

Pardon my ignorance, but is the quality of soccer at private schools substantially better than the quality at public schools? Could BBN beat Masco, Needham, Nauset, Framingham, etc? I can imagine the coaching is better, but it seems that the clubs are where most kids go for better coaching. I know there are a few very good private school teams, but how many are truly elite and offering better training, and more dedicated soccer players, than the top Stars, GPS, etc. clubs?

And I can't believe that D1 schools are too concerned about the relative quality of players' high school education. The better D3 schools might prefer a Lawrence academy kid over a low to mid-level public school, but many places like Lexington, Concord-Carlisle, Brookline, Winchester, etc. also produce a lot of solid student athletes.
