That explains this poster's views. They're based on misinterpretation and misunderstanding. Why even post an article like it's fact anyway? Much of media and journalism is inaccurate, slanted and misleading.

While so much talk was spent on freedom of speech, there is no understanding of accountability. Yeah you can say whatever you want, but there are repercussions. That freedom doesn't mean I have to agree with or even respect your opinion.

Owners, coaches and family enable these individuals to act the way they do. When the skills wane, the enabling comes to an abrupt end. It was a long time coming for HS.

It's only the first section

"It is only here in this country that an entire thread would be devoted to Hope Solo. If they want to fire her then fine. Move on. She has every right to be vocal about Brazil and their infectious risks and can call the swedes whatever she wants.

Should Kaepernick be fired for disrespecting the flag and the anthem. Personally, I would fire him. His issues have nothing to do with a song and a piece of cloth that were made under completely different circumstances and have very wholesome and truthful meanings that represent opportunity, freedom, and survival. Nevertheless, he is staying put."

I am sure that there is a part in all athletes contract regarding behavior and non-sport related actions tied with concerns of representation of the team/business that state and dictate what is and is not tolerated.

The quickest way to get Kaepernick fired is for the fans to speak out and attendance to drop in protest. If he did say the forbidden n-word, which of course only African Americans can say.....oops....isn't he part AA.......then he should be fired and ridiculed for being a hypocrite.

In my opinion, if you are, in anyway benefitting from being a US Citizen, or want to show respect for the symbols of the country in which you are residing or visiting then stand up, listen, and, for a brief period of time, keep your mouth shut. I am sure that there is plenty of time and opportunity to fight your cause in another venue.

You do realize that for every 49 game, the cameras will, for a brief period of time, focus on Kaepernick. If I owned the team, I would see as an unnecessary distraction at a minimum, and insulting otherwise. I would trade him off while he might still be worth anything.

If you recall the 1968 Olympics when Tommie Smith and John Carlos demonstrated their black power salute they were penalized. Their actions were 'deemed to be a domestic political statement unfit for the apolitical, international forum the Olympic Games were intended to be. In response to their actions, he ordered Smith and Carlos suspended from the US team and banned from the Olympic Village. When the US Olympic Committee refused, Brundage threatened to ban the entire US track team. This threat led to the expulsion of the two athletes from the Games.'

Back to Hope Solo, the same applies. If the contract is specific regarding representation and behavior then it is done. She can continue to say what she wants, but probably not while playing for the US national team.

Absolutely we are all entitled to free speech in this country. However, when you chose to exercise that right you

          1) Shouldn't be surprised if it gets you into hot water with your employer, including the possibility to be fired

          2) Shouldn't be surprised when others who disagree with exercise their rights to speak out against you

Is there a list of words the USWNT players aren't allowed to use? Is "coward" on the list of fire-able offensive words? If I'm on the USWNT, the only words out of my mouth from here on is ""I love my job. I take the 5th." and "Sorry, no comment".

Depends if your husband used company property to get a DUI, and if you are facing assault charges for drunkenly smacking around your nephew.

It's a sliding scale, based on your a-holeness.

It's about unsportsmanship and embarrassing yourself, your team and your country. Her teammates don't want her on the team anymore. She used her freedom of speech, and so did her teammates.

It isn't just that. She had a trail of bad choices along the way to her ending up here.

Understood, but the reason for termination of contract was specific to her conduct at the Olympics. The prior track record made the decision that much easier.

                        The reason was as follows:

"The comments by Hope Solo after the match against Sweden during the 2016 Olympics were unacceptable and do not meet the standard of conduct we require from our National Team players," said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. "Beyond the athletic arena, and beyond the results, the Olympics celebrate and represent the ideals of fair play and respect. We expect all of our representatives to honor those principles, with no exceptions.

"Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we’ve had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. National Team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action."

Since she is appealing the suspension/termination we will see how it shakes out.

Guess that is why she is taking a leave from the NWSL?

                                Her 15 minutes is up!
