And her outside troubles are exactly that-outside troubles
This isn't the NFL. It's women's soccer. You know who watches women's soccer? Young women and girls. She isn't the type of spokesperson they want for that market. In addition, this isn't the NFL where the league and teams make millions upon millions of dollars and a minor hiccup that causes a loss of ad revenues or one sponsor won't break the bank. Again, it's women's soccer. There barely is a bank to break.

Finally, even NFL players get ousted at some point when their antics become more than management is willing to put up with. This wasn't a one time, heat of the moment thing. She's got a track record of making bad choices. She's getting older, she didn't perform well...she's done. She was a tremendous asset for years. Bravo. Time to pass the torch.

We will see if he also gets a lifetime ban....

Yeah the USSF screwed the pooch on this one.

There are ways to retire a player with Solo's issues, and stature in the game. This was not one of them. This is falls into the, "how not to do it" category. Amateur hour and screwed up enough that it will quickly come back to bite the USSF. Somebody will do or say something worse in the next 6 months and then it will be: "Solo was suspended and her contract terminated for a lot less."

How do you do it? You call a press conference and have her apologize and announce that she is looking forward to starting a family (which she has said). You bring her to the next couple of friendlies (and assuming not pregnant) start her the first half. Sub for her at the first chance in the second half so she can wave to the crowd and get a nice ovation. Let her contract quietly terminate. Do the same with other older players. Coach can say in interviews that it is 3 years to the next world cup and 4 to the next Olympics. Roster will change over as we have quite a few older players.

Couple years from now hire her to coach keepers. Once her contract is done it does not matter what she does or says as far as the USSF is concerned. Is Wambach's DUI keeping her out of the hall of fame or from appearing at USSF functions?

Wambach had one blemish on her record, DUI.

            Hope had numerous blemishes

What kind of lesson would those following learn?

OMG, try not to stain the full size poster of Hope you have in your bedroom.

You really want her as an assistant coach of this team?

Wambach, actually had another issue but walk away and was not caught.

Truth. Agree 100%. Sorry but saying the other team were cowards for parking the bus isn't a "nail", it's a feather. It's not even a curse word. Also, how about Brazillians booing Hope all game every game because of her concerns over Zika? Is Brazil booing Florida now?

What they have taught young girls is that if you are a female sports star, you can never make a mistake, not even utter the smallest unkind or different opinion. If you are a girl and you dare to make a mistake or say a word so benign as "coward", your decades of hard work & service to the sport will be immediately & abruptly ended. If you are a male sports star, you can make as many smaller mistakes as you want & say what you want. You might have to apologize or get fined a little. Make a HuGE criminal mistake and just pick up where you left off after your suspension or prison time. Way to be completely sexist.

She didn't make one mistake, she has made many. She has gotten so many second chances it's not even funny.

This isn't about 1 mistake or about her sex ... She needs people to stop making excuses for her and she needs to own her issues.

One mistake? First, she violated an Olympic oath all olympians take. But, more importantly...ONE? Seriously? She's been in trouble for the last 4 years. She's been on the team despite her behavior, and finally, it's time.

                          One mistake......my gawd.

My D, a keeper no less, was disgusted by Solo's comments. She knows there's a more professional way to handle yourself in a moment of frustration and that's to keep your mouth shut. Then when she read about all of Solo's other nonsense she decided on her own Solo was a player not worthy of her admiration. Maybe it's time you get over your crush and move on?

It's wrong, simple as that. Did you watch Nikki Hamblin attempt to help a stricken Abbey D'Agostino in the 5,000m race? She was awarded a rare Olympic trophy for her sportsmanship.

What that teaches young girls is it's not all about winning. How you represent yourself, your team, your country is what matters.

Is it even worth replying to this comment?

Can't help but think that a certain TS poster might have more than a vested interest in our NT lead keeper. Might not be him, but someone keeps supporting her when in reality her husband seems to be the only other one who does
