What that teaches young girls is it's not all about winning. How you represent yourself, your team, your country is what matters.

Not saying I disagree with you. Quit the opposite.

I'm just counting down the minutes until someone comes back with "that's a rec soccer attitude, coach. Go back to coaching rec."

Like the humor. That would be fine. Personally, I don't think a rec coach is a bad thing at all. They're the first ones to build a child's passion for the sport.

She actually had one bad game. That's it. So, I think the criticism for her performance is unfair.

As for anonymous posting on a message board that is ready by a few people vs. representing your country and sport at the highest level for women....not even in the same ball park. Hell, not even the same sport.

Seriously, you have an interview coming up. You need to put your words into action!
This question wasn't directed at me, but I was reading some interesting stuff on the Tiki Taka style of soccer and the article made the point that "Parking the bus' does counter it very well. Then I started reading articles about "Parking the bus" and there are ways to counter it. Like you can have your goalie become more involved. Or you can also Park the bus on your opponent, which tempts them to move forward with the ball. There were other things in the article(s).

Until now, Tiki Taka/Barcelona style soccer has been "THE" method of the times. But the sport is evolving, and perhaps we're getting to the point where a team has to be able to implement more than one style of play.

Yes, if you don't have possession, the counter is to hunker down and close off the lanes. Very effective method. It's why you don't see as much of it out of Barcelona now (along with the retirement of Xavi).

But, that just shows the plan was fine, it was the execution that failed them. They had their shots, they had their opportunities, so they did break them down enough. They just didn't convert.

              That's not on the coach.

They park the bus? Go 4-3-3, with the three forwards really hanging, turn around the ball defensively and play like Leicester to open things up. The USA women certainly were athletic enough to play that way.

Holding the ball up in midfield or playing to the corner for a late cross just give the opposing defense time.

Can't use Leicester as an example, as they don't play with any possession to begin with. Their entire philosophy is winning the ball in their own end and quick countering.

Can't play quick when your opponent has little interest to get out of their own end. (Not blaming Sweden, they did what they had to do to win.)

update on her leaving her pro team:

UPDATE: The New York Times has published a statement from Solo in which she announced that she won’t be returning to her National Women’s Soccer League club, the Seattle Reign, this season. “Coming to terms with the fact that I was fired from the U.S. women’s national team after 17 years of service has been devastating,” she wrote. “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my season with the Seattle Reign, an organization I love playing for. Mentally, I am not there yet.”

Maybe she'll grow up during her time off

Why is US Soccer f'ing with her? Sunil Gulati is a piece of shi*! Last time I saw, there's such a thing as free speech in this country. Yeah, Sweden played like cowards. It's the truth.

Kaepernick keeps playing without a hitch. Lochte gets booked on DWTS. Once again, US Soccer is hell bent on destroying this woman.

I think saying "Sweden played like cowards" is poor sportsmanship, but it's not much more than that. And, I think they played very cleverly. I would not issue a lifetime ban on Hope for her poor reaction and I'd not end her pro career, either.

Sunil and that whole group of FIFA-related trolls are the ones deserving of a ban. We should oust the lot for the good of soccer.

My question is, why the F do we have an Indian dude running our National Soccer program?
Don't they play cricket in India? That idiot needs to go away fast.

"Woman" is the operative word. You answered your own question. Gulati comes from a country where honor killings and throwing acid on woman's faces is condoned.

This comment by Sepp, president of FIFA, really hints at why we need to jettison the current bumper crop of cronies.

"They [women soccer players] could, for example, have tighter shorts. Female players are pretty, if you excuse me for saying so, and they already have some different rules to men - such as playing with a lighter ball. That decision was taken to create a more female aesthetic, so why not do it in fashion?"
