Why the Revs "alliance" is laughable

The Revs have partnered with Bayside, NEFC and Valeo to use their U12 DAP teams as a feeder system. They've left GPS out in the cold for some reason only they can explain. They could never partner with Bolts because they battle for the same player pool.

The 4 U12 only DAP clubs will carry 2 teams each at that age level. That's roughly 100 kids.

How many kids do the Academy teams take at U13? It's less then 20 I would imagine. Let's use 20 as a nice round number. It's 20% of the players in the 4 U12 DAP clubs.

But wait, the Bolts will have 25+ kids in their U12 DAP program. On top of that remember the 25+ kids at GPS aren't part of the "alliance." That means there are 50 kids unaccounted for in the "alliance" that are gunning for spots on the Revs U13 team each year.

Add to that 50 the thousands of other kids at other clubs looking to make the jump to the Revs.

All of a sudden the "pathway" to the Revs seems awfully crowded. Chosing to play for an "alliance" club for the sake of the alliance alone isn't exactly a prudent decision. There is no DAP at these clubs after U12.

The Revs will take the best possible players that they can identify. They draw from all of the New England states. Will they take some players from the "alliance" clubs? Of course they will. There will be talent there. If your child isn't one of the top 3 players in your U12 DAP club then he has no chance of making the Revs.

GPS has such a deep pool of players to choose from when forming their U12 team. They have to be the odds on favorite to assemble the most talented squad. That means they'll probably send the most players to the Revs at U13.

The Revs need this alliance to keep their RDS program alive. Remember that many of the kids selected for their team come from the RDS program. Remember also that the RDS program is open to anyone that pays to enter. This is another pool outside the "alliance" that's looking for a shot at the Revs Academy.

Think wisely before you choose a club with only one DAP age group because you've been told it's the pathway to the Revs.

In the end the Revs don't care what club you play for.

FC Mass has more players on the U14 Revs than any other club. Think about that. Aztec & Explosion have as many players as Valeo does on that roster.

There's only one pathway to the Revs. Be the best player available at the position they need filled. All this "alliance" nonsense is merely window dressing. If you go into this thinking it's your best option to reach the Revs you are going to be disappointed in the end.

and your point is? A kid's chances of making the Revs will always be slim. This is nothing new. Yes it is a great thing for the clubs - parents will focus on trying to get into those clubs first.

NYCFC is doing something similar but they have I think 9 affiliate clubs in their system at the Ulittles, including at least one non MLS DA club (Beachside that I know of, might be others). It's about talent and revenues - you have to constantly be looking for fresh meat, and you need revenues to help defray the costs of running DA programs.

The Revs have been meeting with many clubs Maple and NEP. In Maple the have Boston Real Rams , Weymouth and Explosion.

      NEP -Valeo, NEFC and Bayside.
They didn't choose GPS for a reason . I will not say why but most on here can guess.

Yes , the revs will always take the best players no matter where they come from . Need not worry if your kids doesn't play for one of the clubs mention above. This alliance makes it easy for Revs coaches to scout. The clubs feel like the have a say when they loose players and Revs get a better handle on what is out there.. Win win .
Some clubs are quickly to take credit when the loose a player to Revs but in actuality they don't push the Academy programs just like they don't push the ODP program.

A while ago the Revs had plans to have real scouts not just RDS coaches . This didn't work out and probably cost too much money to operate . This is their cheaper alternative

GPS' affilliation with Bayern Munich would necessarily bar any formal alliance with the Revs--I don't see how BM would ever allow that. I don't see how it matters anyways. As prior posters have noted, once you consider the numbers, those "alliances" (whether with the Revs or with BM) are primarily just marketing angles anyways (for both the clubs and for the Revs). In the end, little has changed for the players: many of the best players from whatever program ("alliance" or not) will find their way into the DAP programs. Some will remain outside of DAP for various individual reasons (high school, boarding schools, location, travel, etc.).

The real reason(s) GPS would not want the alliance are
          1. It would cost them money (you need more practices, better facilities)
          2. It challenges their business model since there would now be a real top team that everyone wants to be on.
          3. It might lead people to leave after the U12 team if they don't move on to (Seacoast or Bolts)

                These arguments make no sense.
                1. The U12 programs that are part of the "alliance" is not going to require more practices or better facilities than what GPS will already having for its U12 DAP program. Or what GPS is already doing now for its top teams, which already practice 3x per week at excellent facilities.
                2. GPS is already plenty hierarchical--like it or not, in their system, there is always a higher team to strive for--Elite teams, NPL teams, North/South National, Internationa, add Bayern invites. That is their business model. I actually think it provides good perspective from the start--even if you are on an excellent NPL team, the GPS players are always aware that there is a higher level out there.
                3. GPS always have some players who leave for DAP every year. I don't see how any "alliance" will increase those numbers. Kids who are good enough and who want to pursue the Revs will do so.

What does make sense is that GPS wouldn't care enough about the Revs to structure a whole product line around them--its relevant to only a handful of players each year and they have an enormous operation. And I don't see how a Revs arrangment could work with Bayern, who presumably want to be the focus of any US marketing efforts.
