First, I am not the poster that you are going back and forth with.
Second, did you actually look at all division 3 teams?? You don't have anything better to do?
Third; The question is whether or not it is worthy 8 years (assuming) at 3-5K per year for you kid to play college soccer. The answer is an individual one and does not necessarily lend itself for anyone person to determine what is best for another. It is up to the family as to how they might spend their money.

That said, as you go through life with your family, you hope to allow them the best opportunity you can. This is not to say that you will hand them anything on a silver platter with a silver spoon. It might mean, however, that you would invest in them. The better college they attend the better these opportunities are. Since it takes more than just good grades (not to minimize this) to get into a better school, the student must have something else. For some it is community organizing stuff and volunteerism (great to do) and for others it might be sport or a club (math club counts!!!). Don't minimize the impact that a coach can have in getting your child through the front doors of a fine school. After that, your kid has to do the work.

When I look back on what we have done for our kids I hope not to look back and ask to many times the question: "What if I had done......." Whatever money I spend and how many miles I drive is my choice. You can criticize all you want, but it is not your place to make my choices. While I respect your right to do so, you have to respect the fact that you only have say in how your kid is raised.

        1) Just because a club isn't listed in their bio doesn't mean they didn't play. Without personal firsthand knowledge you don't know squat about them

        2) CC is very nerdy small school. It isn't a representative example of many D3 programs, let alone anything in the top 100

        4) Making a roster is very different than playing and contributing. Most top D3 programs have multiple academy and high level club players. Those are the ones winning games

        3) The fact that you took the time to sift through a few examples that may or may not prove your point proves you are truly obsessed with this issue. As others have said MULTIPLE times how families chose to spend their money is their own GDam business

Agree 100% with all of the above, except for if your CC above refers to Colorado College instead of Cornell College (IA). Colorado College is NOT a good example for our friend. They play D1 in women's soccer and D1 in men's ice hockey. The D3 men's soccer program is generally one of the top 3-4 teams West of the Mississippi, generally losing out in their conference final to perennial national powerhouse Trinity University in San Antonio. Cornell College is a better argument for very small and quirky and a better bet for talking about non-club players on a roster.

Will the kid from BCH get on the field at Duke?
WD from CM & JP was a very, very good local player who didn't play much.
Is the kid from RL still there?

WD's Bolts teammates DM from Louisville and LB from ND did play a lot for teams that are currently in the ACC. The latter collected a National Champ trophy with a goal scored in the final. So it's a challenge to play at that level, but isn't that what its all about?

Great last question. What is the 'challenge' really mean? Who do you think has a better time; The D1 player who doesn't get much playtime throughout college or the same quality player who goes to an equal academic school with the same major.....but who plays from freshman year on?
This is the crux of the problem and the dilemma that faces young kids and the same problem that parents get too involved in. We left it up to our son..entirely. He had the opportunity to see very very little play time...perhaps until his junior year...at a D1 school or play right away at a D3 school. He is at a D3 school (very good academic school) having a great time and getting on the field.

I don't pretend to know what each and every kid should do, but I do wonder how much the choice is influenced by the parent.

Would be really interesting to get DH's views on this after her choices were, to put it kindly, "influenced."

                        Three questions to be answered:
                        1) You have to know your kid
                        2) You have to honestly know where he fits. Threads like this along with input from the coaches help. You have to understand whether a D1 coach sees you as an impact player, a core player, or a depth player. They seldom tell you that directly but it's not hard to figure it out. Then you have to make sure your kid knows the range of possibilities that creates for him.
                        3) You have to guard against overshooting. It's great your senior year in HS to announce in class or at the dinner party that "My son's going D1!", but if it is as a depth player, the weight of that decision will rest heavy for four years.

Just make sure you don't make the same mistakes. Devastating.

Yes, he should get on the field and if not he gets a great education. He'll get on the field there but isn't going pro.
Always has been of the very top players at his age in NE, a different level to all others at Bolts. And BA gave him a sweet deal when he came from NEFC so it all worked out well for him. A really nice kid from a nice family. Good luck to him.

That really doesn't sound like the dad. He always kept to himself in our experience with him.
