Even if she didn't inherit the gene, growing up in that type of environment can really screw you up, so I don't expect any miraculous change and agree with Parcells, "you are what you are", but I still think you are overplaying your case, trying to make a comparison to Mayweather. Life is not as black and white as apparently you believe.
For the record, I'm not comparing Hope Solo to Mayweather and for its own reasons think that's more ridiculous than reasonable. Is it fair to compare the differences in how some in media operate with two conflicting standards or that some are entirely absent in criticizing either one? Absolutely, but that's about it.

My only point here is about actions - what she's done, not why - and that defending Hope Solo is absurd. If Hope Solo was your or my kid's 3rd grade teacher, everyone in town would be grabbing pitchforks and torches, but instead, those people are for the most part making silly excuses and rationalizations when they're not cheering after a big save. Not the first, won't be the last.

Of course they are going to piggyback on the World Cup, but with a story that will appeal to a certain type of audience.
Maybe, but that's different than what was written. The only comment about ESPN and their reporting spoke to a motive of spite, not greed, as if a negative story about Solo and the USWNT was getting even, because they lost the WC contract. As stated, dumb.

This is the exact reason I'm not supporting the USWNT this year. I hate Hope Solo.

I just don't like how the USWNT is labelled as some great collective American hero.

Talk about an illogical over reaction.

When was the last time the WNT were labeled heroes? Probably when Hamm was on the team. Unless, of course, you are addressing all those players who have "come out".

Just came across this in the news. It's how business is done, especially at ESPN.

                http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/the-tu...140424770.html

Caitlyn Jenner will receive the ESPYs' Arthur Ashe Courage Award, and Bob Costas isn't too pleased about that.

Appearing on Dan Patrick's radio show, the longtime NBC announcer and commentator called the move a "crass exploitation ploy" on ESPN's part, a move to garner ratings based on Jenner's revelation of her new identity. Caitlyn is, of course, the former Bruce Jenner, gold medal-winning Olympic athlete.

Costas stressed his complaint was not with Jenner or her choices, but with the usage of her as a symbol in order to garner ratings. “I think every year we look across the landscape of sports and we find prominent people and kids in high school and amateur athletes who I think more closely fit the description of what they’re looking for, or should be looking for there,” Patrick said. “I think this is just a play to pump up [the] audience. The way lots of things are put on television to attract eyeballs, not because of the validity, but because of whatever the kind of gawker factor is.”

Which is why Olbermann is working for ESPN - the gawker factor.

The USWNT tries to push their progressive views on everyone. Just go out and play soccer.

This reference to Jenner as "she" drives me crazy. I don't particularly care if he wants to change his name, wear women's clothes, take hormones or cut off the family jewels, but he can't change his DNA and the DNA is male.

Why do people continue to decry the double standard? Haven't we established that there are different rules for different people? Hope Solo is not a third grade teacher. And your kid's third grade teacher has no game. Really simple. Celebrities very typically get different treatment than us normal folk. Nothing new there.
