Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOur daughter is new to club soccer. We are happy with her club for now because it's nearby and her team has had success. She is also developing her skills and confidence. However she enjoys being challenged and we aren't sure her club is big enough to year after year provide the kind of challenge she wants.
Do any of you have advice for us, the parents of an early middle school aged girl who wants to play in the most challenging environment she can? We don't know the difference between Maple and NPL and aren't sure of the top club teams in the state. However it seems like given the cost of club soccer and our child's interest and ability we should be better informed. TIA.
Finding a TEAM that your player likes is the thing, more so than the CLUB or the LEAGUE. Even within a club, the team one year different than your child's can be very different, because each team is a different mix of abilities and personalities among players, parents and coaches.
Club soccer, like many activities, can consume a lot of time. So think through whether you have other children whose activities have to be considered, how far you're willing to go for training sessions and games, etc. If there are other players in town with ability similar to your child's, what are they doing for club? They may have good info, and may be a chance to carpool. On the other hand, if you have an only child, who's the best player in town, and you're in a small town where no one plays club, you have a different scenario in front of you.
