MA needs more small events like this. NJ soccer is no better than MA but they are perceived to be because of dozens of these types of tournaments.

My kid's team trains really hard when they have practice, and are improving as individuals and a team.
They've played some good teams and some bad teams.
They have had some pretty successful results, and seem to be having a great time.
The kids give it their all in games and tournaments, and as a result they have earned points in some kind of ranking system.
I think the parents and coaches are proud of them, and enjoy watching them play.
Maybe they'll play for the next seven years and some of them will play against each other in HS.

Sorry your son's team was not invited to this small tournament.

GS warts and all is here to stay and is growing. Clubs and parents will have to choose between being self-righteous by stating that it doesn't matter (i.e. a low ranked team) and participating in the more competitive events. Can't really have it both ways.

When it comes time for ID'ing, NJ, CA and TX are the first places scouts go to. Wouldn't it be better if it was MA?

This would be the V U12 version. (And after this is when you tell me that none of these things were said by V parents and were just done to be inflammatory... but since nobody signs anything, no reason to believe you more than I believe the posts.)

My kid's team trains three nights a week, have competitive practices with the best kids in the area, and are developing at a rate faster than anybody else because nobody coaches possession soccer like our coach.
They've played the best teams in the state at U13 and in the region at U12, have beaten them all, and are as good as any U13 team in the state.
The kids give it their all in games and tournaments, and as a result they have earned enough points to sit at the top of the state rankings. Something happened to the rankings recently that screwed us, and will embarrass tournament directors and gotsoccer, but in the end everybody will know that we are the best - because we are.
We say they are the best, because they are, and you're just jealous.
The Academy path awaits all of these kids, then D1 full scholarships, and probably even some invitations to Europe for the two best kids, but at least a long career playing pro soccer is in the cards for many of them.

Using your logic, we also have no idea if it's true if:
- pilfer teams for players (evidence of that?), or
- whether or not it matters to GPS parents (not as much as some other clubs and more than others, I'd guess), or
- if this magical four-team tourney actually exists, since right now it only exists in these threads.

And just a friendly reminder:
Watch what you say about the GS rankings, there's a very strong delegation here that insists they are an absolutely accurate indicator of the dominance of some U12 teams... unless it isn't working at that time.... wouldn't want you to get shredded for mentioning GS, either good or bad.

You are kidding yourself. They go to DAP events. And, increasingly, that is the only place they go. Just not worth their time to go elsewhere. An unfortunate realty of the system that is currently in place.
