This tournament has been played for several years! My sons team played in this 3 years ago when they were u12. They were playing with birth year not aug 1 so older kids were rostered. It was frustrating to get beat but it was good competition. The blazers rarely got beat back then but it was good for them playing older stronger teams.
Yes it has - on Father's day. We got email spam from MPS every year. But not this year. The VW was not listed on Needham's site. VW has a terrible website that also gave no information until it was too late. Disapointing.
Here is a simple question.
Does GPS/MPS alter its roster to win key games during a tournament?
There are two recent tournaments from this past year (U12) in which the GPS team was either about to be eliminated (Futsal) or were barely winning games (Needham;small goal differential), when suddenly the next game (Futsal) or in playoffs (Needham) the GPS team suddenly slaughtered the other teams with 10-12 goal differentials.
I remember back during a winter league when the then MPS team was struggling to beat a town team. The two teams met in the finals and there were suddenly 4 MPS kids that had not played during the regular games, one being a very good goalie.
Again, I am asking a simple question; Does GPS/MPS alter its roster within/during a tournament when they need to get a key win?

GPS does not alter their rosters for key games as you put it. Once again, they have the resources to pool the most talented players and form teams that are entered in tournaments where rosters are submitted, frozen, and player pass cards submitted as the rules dictate. As far as guest players go, it is done as a recruiting method as all clubs do, when the player's parents want to look at the coaches, training methods, games and possible teammates. That is all. The 4 MPS kids that you are implying came in as last minute ringers to lock up a win, are rostered players that more than likely missed previous games due to other commitments which often happens with multi sport children. Please stop with the conspiracies.Tournaments have rules in place to prevent those things from happenning.

Seems like the issue here is that the parents of small clubs feel they are not on a level playing field when it comes to tournaments where the GPS Elite teams are entered. Well, it sounds that you are frustrated with your son playing on the basically the same team with a few minor changes from year to year, and with the same coach within the same age group. GPS allows for advancement for performing players, playing up in age group, training with other coaches and access to playing on All Star teams such as the GPS Elite teams. The kids are rewarded based on their performance through a meritocracy based system and it does not cause dissension among the players at all. In fact ,within the GPS framework, kids encourage each other and congratulate one another for over achieving.I have seen it many many times. These are ther benefits of being part of a large youth soccer organization versus a small one where you are relegated to playing on the one single team you were offered a spot on.
no need to take potshots at me for asking a question my friend..i read the thread and understood what people said the team did..my question was more around what the rules are for having players cross state lines as I wasn't aware that was allowed, that's all...can't even ask a question around here anymore when you don't know something...if I new what the rule was, I certainly wouldn't have asked
Crossing state lines? What are they felons? These are ALL GPS developed players. Residencies are meaningless. If your club had the resources to pool the best players together from within a regional area, they would certainly do it. My suggestion to you is leave Aztec and/or Valeo/NU.Soccer teams and coaches become stagnant there and kids get bored.
wow, some of you people are indeed crazy. My son doesnt play for valeo or any of the teams you mentioned and I honestly could care less what GPS did as I frankly don't know anyone who plays for them nor have we played against them. I simply was asking for someone to explain what the rules are. If others want to then attack a specific club based on their interpretation of the rules go ahead, but please don't include me with those whacko NU parents. My son plays for a smaller club, but i have nothing against the big boys and would have no problem with him playing for one of them if that is what was best for him. Settle down folks as their isnt a conspiracy behind every post. Some of us actually are looking for answers to questions we have.

It's not personal. Don't come on this forum looking for answers or information though. This forum is about attack and confrontation. Youth sports is a competitive business and all parents are chasing the dream. They are all basically insecure about their decisions on soccer clubs, the costs are high and the margin of success is low. Don't take anything personally.

Also don't think that every answer or response had to do with your question. The discussion was started before your question and will continue afterwards

I dont get the feeling that anyone is envious of GPS system.

I don't think this is about some one envious of the GPS System. The NU mom is envious that GPS won. On some other threads, NU started bragging that they were going to Oregon before the semi's took place. Once they lost in the semi's and realized how foolish they were then they started this thread.

Kind of sad that they were sore losers.
That is a funny perspective seeing as though NU was not in the tournament. Regardless, NU handily and regularly beat GPS teams.

Haha! Which is why no one is impressed with the GPS NPL teams because they can't even beat town teams. When a few more tournaments before you start coming on here talking about how great your club is with roster switches!
