Regardless of the result, I just read that there were 2018 present for the home opener tonight. Is there any real chance that this league will survive? Additionally, what genius thought a home opener on Easter was a good idea?

Boston is the tough sell. Other teams draw in well over 5,000 a game. Portland sells our
The new expansion team had over 8k at their home opener.

too bad the Breakers dont have a marketable, dynamic talent that people would love to see - someone like Sydney Leroux - oh wait!

As long as ignorant, local 'fans' are willing to pay for mediocrity, then that's what they'll get.

Certain USWNT players with clout (Sydney) basically refuse to play for the teams they are allocated to which is why many of them are concentrated in the Pacific Northwest. Even some not so outstanding players refuse to show up to camp claiming injuries which rapidly disappear once they are traded (LePeilbet who demanded at trade to FCKC so she could be with her wife) Some teams have a lot of allocated players (Reign, Thorns, Washington Spirit), some have very few - which was not supposed to happen. Now when there is a USWNT callup, those teams with a lot of USWNT players will complain because they have to use other players. It will be interesting to see how the NWSL responds because they and USSF have created this monster.

No real fans, and an awful product spells doom.
On the other side, Noyola (MEX) who came in off the bench was one of the standouts. Souza (BRA) was decent as well. Would have liked to have seen Ohai but she, like Mewis, was out due to injury.
i will likely attend again (yes, my daughters were with me), as it's not a bad way to spend a couple hours on a Sunday evening, but will certainly be hoping for better quality.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;1232084]'Awful' may be a little strong, but having attended Breakers vs Dash on Sunday night, I can report that the product was not all that compelling. Besides the couple of NT-level talents on either side, the rest were pretty average. Even De Vanna (AUS), who generally gets decent billing (and who, to be fair displays an excellent work rate) showed grievously poor ability to hold onto the ball on multiple occasions. As you might expect, O'Rielly's (USA) speed is impressive, and she did create one of the goals with a well placed cross to Lohman. Breakers defending was suspect, with Jones looking the most uncertain of herself. Kyle was overall decent in the midfield, and it might well have helped if Mewis (USA) had not been out with an injury.

They should get down to 6 teams (from 9). That will help the product on the field. I am not sure Boston would survive if this occurs
