Regardless of the result, I just read that there were 2018 present for the home opener tonight. Is there any real chance that this league will survive? Additionally, what genius thought a home opener on Easter was a good idea?

Same for Bob Kraft and the Revolution who had one of the countries best strikers in Juan Agudelo and he's just gone with no explanation (and the team has no goals). Just so you understand - the allocated USWNT players are not paid by the NWSL but by USSF. Certain USWNT players with clout (Sydney) basically refuse to play for the teams they are allocated to which is why many of them are concentrated in the Pacific Northwest. Even some not so outstanding players refuse to show up to camp claiming injuries which rapidly disappear once they are traded (LePeilbet who demanded at trade to FCKC so she could be with her wife) Some teams have a lot of allocated players (Reign, Thorns, Washington Spirit), some have very few - which was not supposed to happen. Now when there is a USWNT callup, those teams with a lot of USWNT players will complain because they have to use other players. There is too much competition locally for sports entertainment dollars to make this work. Except for Seattle and Portland, towns that there are less sports teams, attendance is HORRIBLE. No significant TV contract. And I haven't seen current year salary figures but last year the salary range was between $6,000 and $ 30,000. 'Awful' may be a little strong, but having attended Breakers vs Dash on Sunday night, I can report that the product was not all that compelling. Besides the couple of NT-level talents on either side, the rest were pretty average. Even De Vanna (AUS), who generally gets decent billing (and who, to be fair displays an excellent work rate) showed grievously poor ability to hold onto the ball on multiple occasions. As you might expect, O'Rielly's (USA) speed is impressive, and she did create one of the goals with a well placed cross to Lohman. Breakers defending was suspect, with Jones looking the most uncertain of herself.
