Not true. I can tell you for a fact that a number of metro west boys teams had all of their top players playing town at U14. In our town, the best 4 players played town and all also played for D1 Maple or NEP clubs. Same goes for three neighboring towns that were in our Bays division.

I am sure this varies by town and gender, but your generalization is just as wrong as the first one .

So why don't the adults behind the talented Weymouth team enter the team in State Cup, or Open Cup, or whatever they are calling it this year?

Ambitious teams always strive for more.

Judging by the tone and text of the Weymouth posts I would bet they originated with a teenager.

My kid hates town soccer. Uncommitted kids who are not fit and do not know the game. It is frustrating and a waste of time. Not fun.

Every town is different and it varies from year to year. In some towns the top kids also play for their Junior High/Middle school team. In others they don't.

Commonwealth FC is a town team and they could beat your son's club team.

Ok. Sure they could. Town soccer is the end all be all. Your kid's team are the chosen ones.

Looks like the U14's play in the 6th bracket of Maple! They may be lucky to beat a decent girls team never mind a decent boys club team. What a joke.

They would lose to my daughters town travel team though.

What a load of BS. Great players get produced at the younger ages because they develop both in town and club. Usually town first and then go to club. But still do both. They also develop playing other sports and going to clinics and camps. Most clubs have little loyalty and would ship a kid off the minute they can trade up. They usually do to kids that have been playing both town and club vs a kid that just plays club. There are many lousy, disinterested club coaches out there that would rather coach the older teams than spend time at this age level anyway. It's a big mistake to put all your eggs in the club soccer basket if you have a good town program. Club comes first in case of a conflict but it helps to do both. Any educated coach should know that.

When presenting in argument always remember that the same could be said about your side. Town soccer has many terrible coaches who have no background in the game.

"If you are a good player (top 1 or 2 on town team) you should not play town soccer after U10."

That was the statement and it's ridiculous. Good town programs help these kids develop from U6-U10, so do other sports and camps and clinics. Town is great for their continued development if it is done right. Many situations are. To make that blanket statement is ridiculous. Go back to coaching college and leave youth soccer coaches alone. Let the players we help develop make you look good. Some of these clubs like to take so much credit for their good youth players development they act like they gave birth to them for heaven's sake.

In many cases, they were given a lot to work with to begin with and part, not all of the development going forward.
