To each his own, but top players do not play town soccer and the best players do not play HS soccer when the time comes.

All you townies stay in your bubble where you are comfortable, where your comfort zone never gets pushed.

But the "townies" and the "best players" from Massachusetts stop playing truly competitive soccer by 22, and then end up playing side by side in rec leagues.

All you myopic chi chi club parents should keep drinking the kool-aid and chasing that dangling carrot. It's a sad day when grown-ups can be led by the nose by twenty-something's with British accents and quality hair styles.

The money I've saved not playing club soccer will amount to more than the scholarship your kids will get for soccer.

My kid will get to pick his school of choice based on very strong academics. You'll push your kid somewhere based on soccer. That's pretty sad.

College? You will save a lot if you just get him a job. College is expensive. The money I save on not sending my kid to college will buy him a house. You are gonna push your kid into debt chasing some liberal arts academic dream. That pretty sad.

Don't forget to ask them if they want a combo meal?

I invested very wisely so I'm not concerned about college. He wants to be a doctor. It's tough to accomplish that without higher education. He'll be just fine. Thank god we didn't waste money on club soccer.

Hmm, 99.5% still play town? I guess only 0.5% are any good. None of the top players that I know of still play town. Maybe on the South Shore they do, but not Metro West.

Why wouldn't a kid play town travel soccer? What does skill and ability have to do with the decision?

Everything. Same reason a really smart kid does not take basic classes.

Your poor kid must have no life at all - sad to hear morons like yourself who have no clue about soccer or kids - you ask any kid what they prefer, and almost all will say travel town

I think it depends on how good the kid is, and how good his town team is. My kid can't stand town. He liked the kids on the town team, but he didn't like playing soccer with them very much. The kind of soccer he wants to play, they generally just aren't able to play, and he was really annoyed by their lack of dedication and focus during practice. It's more important to him than to them, and with his club team, he gets kids with a similar level of commitment.

I think this is a pretty widespread feeling among top players, which is why so many of them stop playing town. It's not universal by any means. I know of one top U-14 who's played town all along and loved it. But he is the exception more than the rule. Now, if you play on a bad club team, or your town team is unusually good, town might be a better option.

There are no bad soccer touches through age 15. The same people that trash lowly town travel and MTOC wax poetic about other soccer countries and the prevalence of unstructured free play in the streets. Hypocrites. Let your uber-player practice his quadruple step overs, rainbows & bicycle kicks among the great unwashed, while he has fun with his friends. Clubs stifle creativity so you should take advantage of the more relaxed atmosphere in town.

It doesn't depend on how good the kid is, it's a game and kids like to play games with their friends. A very good way to do that is play Town/Travel soccer. There is nothing to prevent a kid from playing both club and travel. It's a game...it's fun...with friends... I swear, so of the stuff you folks say is just so moronic. What aspect of your kids life do you not control?

As I already said, no, he actually doesn't really enjoy it that much, for the reasons I gave.

No one ever said there was.

                              Addressed above.

And, as I said above, he's the one who doesn't want to play town soccer. The last time he did, I was the one who talked him into doing it.

So at the end of the post, all you can do is repeat your assumption that all kids want to play town soccer and ignore the fact that I told you that a lot of kids don't want to. And you have the gall to say that others' posts are moronic, when all you can do is repeat yourself without addressing others' arguments?

This sounds like the perfect opportunity for him to work on his leadership skills, instead of throwing up his hands and walking away because he's at a different level.
