    The problem with girls soccer.

After many years of soccer involvement I have finally managed to identify the root problem with girls soccer. It's the parents.

Okay, I'm kidding, but that probably deserves it's own consideration independent of this discussion.

The problem with girls soccer is that it's so slow, and honestly, fairly uninspiring? As the parent of 3 boys I count myself very fortunate. I've patiently sat along the sideline of my friend's daughter's games and suffered through deliberate, polite, dispassionate soccer. The difference between boys and girls soccer, especially during the older years, is staggering.

Boys are stronger, faster, more aggressive and competitive while the girls try their very best to weave a complicated solution to a very straightforward problem. Girls actually move the ball too much. Their goal appears to be moving the ball for movements sake. The boys move the ball until they create an opportunity and then they capitalize quickly, directly and with power.

To be clear, I am not saying that there aren't strong and fast girls. I am saying that they are few and far between. Soccer fields are festooned with female soccer robots that mechanically execute one or two touch possessions. They can run all day but they can't jump, they won't battle for the ball, and the goal tends to sneak up on them.

Every week, the parents of boys routinely discuss how lucky they feel to be on the sideline of their son's game rather than a girls game. I have the utmost respect for the parents of girls. Their tolerance level is Herculean.

Crappy girls soccer is crappy girls soccer. Go out and watch some of the elite girls soccer teams. Oh, and by the way, tell your son to play a real sport.

Elite young girls is also slow and tedious by comparison. It really is.

What the hell is the point of this post. If your elite playing son had to put on a helmets and pad he'd get taken behind the woodshed by my kid. What's the point of comparing the boys and girls. My daughter plays the game at a very high level and does something she loves. As a parent I'm just thankful to not be at a dance recital. New thread please.

Who's talking about little girls. A better comparison would be male figure skaters: they're stronger, faster, can jump higher, are more athletic, etc ... does that mean there's a problem with women's figure skating?

Girls can and do compete with boys prior to puberty. Speed and strength are a nonissue then, in fact girls often have a size advantage. I'll give you quickness is an advantage with boys, but girls can get quicker with proper training (which will include playing with and against boys). Girls have an advantage playing as a team (which boys can improve on by playing with girls).

But if you entered your son in the dance recital, he'd dominate because he's faster, more athletic, can jump higher, blah, blah, blah, then the OP could tell us how there's a problem with girls dance recitals.

Your son sounds like the next Johny football ... Good luck with that

This was explained to Dunce Dad on the u11 thread and his response was again to go ballistic, this time starting a new thread. A 10 year old girl better than his son is a fate worse than death.

In our town many kids play club and ive found theres a couple girls who could beat any of the boys 1v1 and whenever my daughters club team plays the boys at theyre club theyve won everytime even when playing their age, the year younger, and the year older. So maybe its a little more boring but clearly girls are often more skilled

Too funny! I have 3 boys, not 1, and they all play multiple sports. Soccer provides a level of fitness that offers them a tangible edge in the other sports.

The OP is absolutely right.Girl's soccer in this state is abysmal.I caught a Stars ECNL game recently and it was no different than a townie game. It's a big, big money maker though, feeding on parent's egos and telling them they have the next Wambach and they keep dishing out the $$$ for years to come.

It could also mean that the boys' side of your daughter's club stinks.

Girls beating boys one on one?? Not ever I've I seen that, ever, and I'm over generalizing here!! Adult women's soccer is atrocious, it's not even popular outside the USA.The USWNT has gained popularity because they're cute and appeal to all the millions of little girls out there who play soccer and that's pretty much it. C'mon, girls beating boys one on one...please!!
