High School Coaching Changes

Based on my experience, I completely disagree with this. Time and again I've seen HS teams with relatively few club players beat teams that were a lot more talented on paper. The difference? Coaching.

Let's take PT's last two jobs. DY girls. Could not win at all. Pretty shallow talent pool.

Canton girls. Loaded. Handful of outstanding players. Won a lot.

Did he get better as a coach or did he have better talent?

The town's youth program used to be strong. It is no longer really considered that by the folks who actually know what is going on. That being said, PT will help bring back the program because of his commitment to the sport.

U14 Boys six wins and a draw in seven Div 1 games, colossal GD. Better get some facts before you shoot your mouth off..............

DY wasn't awful, they are now.

They made tournament for 10 straight years. They did lack the LB s of the world.

Time will tell. At D-Y the teams were awful. Canton was very good with outstanding players. HS soccer is all about talent. The season is short and unless you have committed kids playing club year round then you will suffer. Marshfield boys has not been great and they are in a very tough ACL. If PT can get the kids to play soccer outside of the HS season then he will be successful.

Lost in 3rd round of Div 1 tourney to eventual Emass champ Needham. This critic does not have a clue

Tough ACL? That is a laugh; don't use that league as an example of tough competition. Did you actually watch any of their games? They were rolling over the ACL teams, at least most of the games.

In 2011 Marshfield went 4-4-4 in the ACL. So they either sucked in a bad league or the league is tough. Take your pick.

Yes --They have 5 or 6 very good 8th grade players and some real strong 7th graders-they all play club soccer and all could be Varsity players and even starters as 10th graders--The new head of the youth program is also doing a great job--future looks bright for PT...

Tough ACL was the initial critics words, not mine. No league performance was strong as well as tourney performance. There's nothing that can be called weak in that performance

Strong league or weak league...irrelevant. The point is that PT is an excellent coach who is also a great leader. The boys will do very well with him. Marshfield is lucky to have him as a coach.

Yes! He has run PTUSA clinics in town for years, is well known and wil be a huge success

PT will do fine, very good coach snd will evalate any team he works with. Although I will ask if job became available in spring 2012 would he have left the Loaded canton team?

Of course he would. He applied for the girls job just before moving to Marshfield. 90% of high school coaches want to work within their own community. Canton was a great gig for him but why commute and work far from home, especially when he has a young family?
