The reality was too much to handle for a group of kids who see they will not be on the top team for the first time in their careers.

Are you New England? We haven't heard a peep from our club. But I guess if you have try outs coming up it makes sense to start playing with the rosters now.

This is inside the club blue on blue. I think the roster will be 80% changed after kids from the outside show up. Its definatly a different reality for alot of families. I showed up at the end of practice to put eyes on the situation and people who have always been frendly are suddenly not. The stress level is VERY high.

I don't believe it will be a big issue internationally; most international academy teams are split 60/40 with kids playing up in age. If the UK has been doing this for years, even after most countries changed to birth year, I'm sure the US can figure out a way.

I think you're missing my point. I'm not trying to say one way or the other if it will be a big issue or not. The point I'm making is that someone at MLSN DOES seem to think it's an issue. I've been curious where MLSN stands, and if they'll go against the move to SY what kind of impact their dissent would have on the entire "ecosystem". This entire thread is ECNL/girls biased and people are ignoring the elephant in the room. The note added at the end of that article lends some support to those saying MLSN might not be on board.

That is fair to say...although I seriously doubt that MLSN has more sway than ECNL, USYS, and US Club Soccer combined, but we will know something soon enough

Oh I read it. It was dumb and still is. You're making a distinction without a difference to sound like you've come up with some deep thoughts. Just semantics. What kid is going to want to play their entire lives without ever being on a team that is, to borrow your narrowly tailored word, "focused" on winning? So what, all the way through U-19 and college, they're playing games where the "focus" is to work on those technical skills, tactics and soccer IQ? When they're in that NCAA D1 final, they should just be happy that they made some nice passes and even put a killer stepover in for the highlight reel? Can't focus on winning that national championship? GTFOOH. It makes no practical difference what word you used, you grapefruit. You want to see a real dropoff in participation, just try having kids spend year after year doing speed and agility training and working on the individual development plans. Do that and watch the kind of football they play with a pigskin take off.
