What's funny about waivers is back in the DA days DA did not allow players to play High School soccer. However if your were connected or $$$ or went to a private school players were able to participate in High School soccer if the parents received a waiver from DA allowing it.

ECNL used to use allowing players to play High School soccer as a recruiting bullet.

Why wouldn't ECNL provide waivers allowing all edge case (ie mostly redshirted) trapped players after switching to SY to play with kids in their grade at school?

The whole point of changing from BY to SY is to make recruiting easier for college recruiters and recruiters only care about what year players graduate.

So now all the Jan 1 birthday players who are on the roster because of BY will suddenly get bumped by Aug-Dec birthdays AND redshirt cheaters. Have fun :-)

Jan babies will not get affected very much. Sure if there's an August starter that's better than the Jan child and IS IN THE GAME GRADE, yes that Jan child might be bumped. But the likelihood of Sep to Dec kids being in same grade as Jan child is very low.

And redshirting is not only rare it's expensive as that's a whole extra year of private school at $50k. And in all my years as a private school mom, I've only seen it happen once for hockey. PG kids are a different story.

Just worry about your kid being the best that they can be. Let the coaches worry about how to form the best teams to make it worthwhile for scouts' time.

I'd guess ECNL will allow limited play for these remaining few trapped players in the same way that they do now. There won't be nearly as many of them as there are now, and a limited few playing in some showcases during specific years won't be a big deal. I doubt they'll provide waivers to play their entire youth career from U8 through high school, league games, tournaments, etc., with younger kids.

Ok ECNL might not (at first) but other leagues will allow redshirt players and use it as a selling point. Now suddenly on the girls side ECNL top teams lose to USYS teams.

And how do you think ECNL will react?

It was always dumb and based around nonsense from Klinnsman who basically has been shunned out of the sport at this point

US Club Soccer, US Youth Soccer, AYSO statement on forthcoming U.S. Soccer decision regarding age group formation by school year vs. calendar year
US Club Soccer, US Youth Soccer and AYSO members and participants,

In 2017, U.S. Soccer decided to change age group formation by school year (Aug. 1-July 31) vs. calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31). Since the change was made, we have been reviewing the impact on our sport, specifically for players of all ages and competitive levels.

Over the past few months, U.S. Soccer, at the request of its Technical Development Committee, has engaged in a review of that decision. We support these efforts and appreciate their approach to engage Organizational Members, leagues and clubs in collecting feedback. Additionally, US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer and AYSO have solicited and shared additional feedback with one another in an effort to make the most informed and appropriate decision for our sport.

US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer and AYSO have been in constant communication on the topic, recognizing the importance of consistency across the three biggest youth soccer organizations in America. US Youth Soccer’s and US Club Soccer’s leadership teams have met in person multiple times, most recently in September at the US Youth Soccer Grassroots Symposium in Salt Lake City. Additionally, we welcome the involvement of other U.S. Soccer Organizational Members.

We believe that any decisions should be made as a collective with as many youth organizations as possible, and it is our intention to do so.

As chair and vice chair of the U.S. Soccer Technical Development Committee and Youth Representatives on the Board of Directors, Mike Cullina (US Club Soccer CEO) and Louis Mateus (US Youth Soccer Board of Directors member) are directly involved in the conversation and recommendation to U.S. Soccer’s Board of Directors. As chair of the Youth Council and Youth Representative on the Board of Directors, Tina Rincon (US Youth Soccer Board of Directors chair) is also actively engaged.

The next U.S. Soccer Board of Directors meeting is Nov. 22, 2024. We expect this topic to be on the agenda for that meeting and, consequently, a formal and public decision by the end of the calendar year.

As always, thank you for your passion for the sport and commitment to our athletes.

My take is that it’s still not decided.

                              My takeaways:
                              (1) USCS, USYS, and AYSO are on the same page, presumably recommending a change back to Aug 1.
                              (2) USCS, USYS, and AYSO have enough representation in the USSF Technical Committee and Youth Council to have already made the case for the switch from those committees and issue their recommendation to change back.
                              (3) The USSF vote is by the BoD, not full membership.
                              (4) USCS, USYS, and AYSO intentionally did not say whether they would change over the objection of USSF or abide by its decision.
                              (5) The main purpose of this was to give people some more notice that it's being discussed, and pressure USSF to listen to youth soccer orgs on this issue.

Not a done deal. Youth soccer is aligned and has recommended a change back. Ball is in USSF BoD's court. Youth soccer wants USSF to do the right thing, in their mind, so the whole governing structure remains intact without future drama.

I’m pretty sure US Club has their final meeting with league operators to get final feed back before presenting their final position to US soccer. That should be finished up by next Wednesday.
