US Club soccer 26/27 ECNL will jump ahead and start the process a year early Fall 25 for ECNL possibly GA as well.

I meant if they could figure out grade year rosters before they can do it again.

Now that some mystery genius posted the formula, things are moving fast around here

One year to talk about it with a British accent and one year to actually roll our sleeves up and do it.

One year to do nothing while MA parents keep whining. Then they will announce no change.

              That’s a real possibility.

I’m still confused how that works for kids who reclass. You have kids who are more then a year older then everyone else and some reclass twice, so in that case more then two years. Now you have those bigger older and stronger kids receiving the accolades and invites because they are the strongest in their grade. What’s next… boys can play on girls teams and dominate. Yah. All sounds stupid. Most kids are trapped because their parents wanted them to be the biggest in their grade…. Most were given a choice when they started school which grade they want to enter. The whole poor Mia isn’t with her friends is her parents fault.

This has been said roughly 10,000 times but you can't just keep your kid back in school and be 2 years older. It will just be a new birth year cut off that matches when the school age cut off is.

Why would parents hold there kid back to gain an advantage on the soccer field? I would assume it's academics

"Most kids are trapped because their parents wanted them to be the biggest in their grade...." Have you truly read 2700 posts and not understood how birth year results in trapped players? Is it possible that you actually got to page 180 of a thread and don't understand that birth year prohibits any advantage for Q4 players? Have you genuinely missed that there is no way a parent can arbitrarily use birth year to escape the issues that are by definition inherent to BY and trapped players. Prior to this thread I was ambivalent about BY versus GY but now I cannot wait for GY and by all means let the reclassing begin! College coaches will be thrilled as regrading means bigger and better incoming freshmen.

You would remain trapped because of your over eager decision to hold your kid back. No one is looking to promote this type of behavior by design.

What are you talking about? If it switches back to grade year no one will be trapped! What are you not understanding? Literally you check a box that says 2029 and every year you play with and against other kids graduating in 2029. Period. Done. No ambiguity. How are people struggling with the concept?

If someone is born January 2011 (2029) but parents held back In kindergarten they would be class of 2030. The thing is does ECNL care about parents holding back kids? As this would make product stronger for college recruiting.

Also holding kids back isn’t easy we tried to hold my son back after Covid and the school said no way.

I think people are talking through each other because some assume it would be strictly grade year as school while others assume it would be date-based and simply aligned with school year windows. One protects against red-shirting, and one doesn't. In my opinion, the date-based protection is needed for younger age groups, but then it could be strictly grade-based once kids hit high school.

I agree. If they decide to change should be some for of SY calendar but maybe U15 and up go with grad year.
