    From the DPL announcement.

the implementation could vary across sanctioning bodies. Our focus remains on ensuring that our league is prepared, regardless of the outcome.

Does this mean ECNL will goto grad year? Just asking. Tin foil hat is on.

All the crazy BY people are going to
lose it. We all tried to warn you what was coming and what we were hearing but instead of listening you just attack us and tell us are kids sucks. Better get those extra private training started if your ECNL kid isn’t a starter because the party’s over.

Regardless of the outcome, we will adapt and provide clear guidance to help navigate any transition smoothly.

This just opened up more questions than answers given.

So what are the chances this goes through? Seems like a given. If so our team is pretty much split down the middle, so we'll be left without a team or perhaps a team that is not competitive enough. It's too bad they don't consider grandfathering in the older age groups and start this with the 13's or 14's.

But you should acquire the Q4s from the age above, which should make your team more competitive, along with any influx from other clubs. There will be shuffling but net effect should be to make each team stronger. That’s how it will play out at our ECNL club - we’ll drop a few from the bench and gain 2 from the older team which is a big improvement. And the ones who move from our team to the younger one will move from bench to starters, helping them and that team.

                Still TBD

“As many of you may be aware, US Soccer is currently contemplating a significant change to the birth year registration system, potentially shifting back to the August 1–July 31 format. This decision has been under discussion for much of the year, and a final vote is expected to take place on November 22, 2024.”

This is what will happen across the board. Weaker grade level players will get dropped for top Q4 players.

The trickle down effect will be on spring tryouts. I’d imagine (a lot) more players than usual will be reaching out to other clubs to see if they can land at a higher team. Since every team will be pretty significantly affected, the pull of ‘I don’t want to leave my team/teammates) won’t be as strong.

Your presumption is that the current strongest kids on the team are not Q4. That may not be true. This could really hurt some teams. What if the Q4 player is your goalkeeper?

                      Kids can still play up.

All the DPL post did was verify the talks are indeed real. Which was already said on the ECNL podcast. It was also said on the podcast this is more likely to happen than not. So be ready for anything people.hopefully this doesn’t ruin peoples thanksgivings.

MSL Next and NAL are staying with birth year cutoff (Jan 31st.) - confirmed with my son's club.
I am assuming if, or rather when they establish girls academies they will follow the same rule.

I think they are just saying that no matter what choice is made, they will adapt. They are most likely preparing for both.

Isn’t NAL governed by US Club? MLS can do its own thing but don’t the leagues have to follow whomever they register with?
