    3Step Is A Dirty Disgrace

3Step is a private equity backed company that has swooped into the soccer scene in New England by buying up clubs, leagues, tournaments, referees, and facilities. We’ve all read this book before and hated the ending.

The two big problems 3Step’s plan are:

    1) there is a gigantic conflict of interest in everything they do

    2) they are all about the money to the point that they cut corners and will do pretty much anything to improve the bottom line.

Conflict of Interest: How can it be acceptable that our child’s club team is playing an opponent that also employs literally all the referees and referee assigners in the region? When our kids play against a 3Step club (Seacoast, Liverpool, Best, Aztecs, etc.), they are also playing against the referees officiating the game at the same time. This calls into question the fairness of the refereeing but also the referee assignments themselves, especially considering that there is a referee shortage and that 3Step owned clubs magically always have referees for every match while other clubs get the shaft. Go figure. It sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory, but it is actually what is happening here in youth soccer. The same company owns all the leagues, many of the clubs, and also all the referees. This is so wrong.

All About the Money: Clubs need to make money to stay in business, but a company’s values must align with their mission. When your values are purely about profit, then the product will naturally suffer. When the product has to do with children and their development, this creates a fundamental problem. Personally, I have grown very uncomfortable with the idea that the company that owns my child’s soccer club is so profit driven. Their approach is driving quality coaches out of the club and forcing detrimental changes in programs. The hits keep on coming without an end in sight.

If you disagree with this, just look at what 3Step has done to Liverpool, Aztecs, and Seacoast in Mass. All three clubs are in steep decline and are being run into the ground by 3Step. This has been very disruptive to the soccer experience of our children.

Hopefully people will soon begin to see that we are gambling with our children’s futures whenever we support a greedy company like 3Step. It is time to stop this assault on youth soccer and take the game back for our kids.

While i agree they are horrible - and have done a terrible job in the local soccer industry; to suggest some referee shenanigans is a bit of a stretch. At the end of the day these referees are just looking for some extra income and could care less which 13 year old boys team wins a game any given sunday

So this post is clearly from someone at NEFC or someone leaving Aztec.

NEFC have just sent every Aztec player/family a spot on their new Ga program…. Every level of player. Current NEFC families, how does that feel? They have also sent every Aztec coach a coach contract to go work for them, despite not even knowing who they are.

NEFC you used to have some class and dignity, now you have become the bad people you preach about. Good luck NEFC and Aztec families!!

I disagree. The point isn’t that referee shenanigans have occurred. The point is that we now have a situation where there is a shadow of doubt cast over everything because of a conflict of interest.

I find it hard to believe every player with Aztec was offered a GA spot.

There is no shadow. Only a disgruntled parent who can’t accept the result of a youth soccer game.

if there was a fix going on, how long do you think dozens of referees could keep that secret from coming out? People always talk.

Agree. That was my first thought when I read about 2Steps acquisition of the ref organization.
Refs can make or break a close game. Don't discount the effect of refs.

Agreed. As the coaches will take the best of their Aztec players and the other best players from NEFC or whatever club. It’s about building a team.

yes, because there are easily a dozen people conspiring to fix youth soccer games.

Every day, I got to bed thinking "well TS has surely reached peek ridiculousness" and every day I am proven wrong.

Considering the reaction, this post hit a nerve. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

I find it funny they bought out Aztec & Liverpool and completely destroyed their revenue stream. These nerds probably bought up Blockbuster stores after Netflix came out.

If you consider being mocked for reaching new levels of ridiculous, then yes, let's call that "fire".

1 Step forward, 2 Steps back =3step. Accurate, you are going backwards if you are on a team owned by them, it's in the name. At least they don't hide it

This hits similar to the mommy who complains to the principal that her li'l angle didn't get the blue ribbon that was handed out by the teacher

Sounds like the greedy slobs at 3Step don’t like to be called out. They are the worst thing to happen to club soccer in some time. Disgusting.
